I am not trying to cause an arguement at all.
You said that with Flamini we went closer to winning the league than we have with Song. So even if that fact was true (again, look at our league position/points now comparred with when Flamini had the one decent season) was that down to Flamini completely? No other players had any other influence on that?
So no my arguement is not based around Lehmann and I agree with you he was a better 'keeper than Manuel. Maybe it was having this better 'keeper that got us closer to winning the league in your eyes and nothing to do with Flamini at all. I am only using your logic there.
I just don't see why Flamini was so wonderful. Very good for one season yes but special, erm no!
My arguement also considered other reasonable points such as finances. Flamini will want to secure a large salary, one that we really do not need to be paying when there are other areas of the team that need addressing more, goalkeeper being one which you rightly point to.
From memory, we offered young Mathieu £55k a week which he considered and rejected. Being that he is now on £80k a week at Milan with the top tax bracket being 11.25% compared to our 50% do you really think he will be asking for the same £55k offered to him previously? Will he happily come back for what is in effect a 50% pay cut? No, he will want a large salary which is undeniably above his actual worth and talent. Why do thius when we have Song playing out of his skin to the same level as Flamini and on less wages. Also, what would signing do to Song's confidence?
I will now step out of my phone box and wait for you to tell me what facts above are wrong.
