Just can't agree that song is a better player than flamini and the reasongin behind this is that flamini couldn't command a spot in the team until gilberto got injured.

The answer is in there, do you think song would be playing in front of an in form and at his peak Gilberto? Even the most rose tinted of rose tinters couldn't believe that...........surely :?

When flamini got his chance he was quite superb and we missed him when he left, yes song has played quite well of late but if we had signed flamini earlier and paid the extra cash (as with cashley) i believe we would have a far stonger midfield now and that flamini would have got better and better, of course this we will never know but what i do know is that we haven't got anywhere near as close to winnning the pl without him as we did with him.

lets get him back: Wrighty7 PHD MBBS.

In bringing Sol Campbell back Arsene Wenger has done something that I never thought he would ever do and re-signed a former player.

Wenger is a stubborn man but perhaps this sudden change of policy is the sign of a person who will even go against his own principles to bring back silverware to us. This surely is only a good thing.

There is mixed reaction about Campbell coming back to us, that is expected, but at least it shows that Arsene is prepared to swallow some pride because he knows that it is best for Arsenal.

Some people believe that Wenger has an agenda regarding Arsenal and that he refuses to change his ways. Well, the signing of Sol proves that wrong.

As I've said Wenger is stubborn and appeared stuck in his ways but if he is prepared to mellow a little for Arsenal to win things then I think he deserves some credit for doing so.

Have you ever heard of the saying "The Grass Isn't Always Greener On The Other Side"? Well, how many former Arsenal players does that ring true with?

The list is endless.

I've posted about former which former Gunner(s) I'd like Wenger to re-sign in the past and Sol Campbell was top of the list. That's not entirely true. But a player I'd love to see come back is Mathieu Flamini.

I know, I know, he's a money-grabbing little traitor fucker and in the past I've even called him Fla-money but if we are ready to forgive Sol Campbell (who's past misdemeanors could be considered worse than Fla-money's, sorry Flamini's) then I'm ready to welcome the Frenchman back with open arms.

Of course it seems that Mathieu fucked us over. But in truth Arsenal are equally to blame for him leaving. We tried to sell him to Birmingham the summer before he actually left and we let his contract run down.

There is a slight chance that Flamini didn't feel wanted in the last year of his contract.

Having said that Mathieu did say he wanted to stay and the next minute he was swanning off to Italy to sign a contract with his boyhood idol's AC Milan. I'm sure he did the same to Marseille, so he had previous.

So really Arsenal and Flamini are both to blame for him leaving under such poxy circumstances.

What chance is there of being a reconciliation? With Campbell coming back there has to be a chance.

Who knows how Alex Song will come back from the African Cup of Nations? The man filling his shoes, Denilson, is injured. This injury may be more serious than first thought, especially when you see how the Brazilian went down completely unchallenged.

Fabregas would love it. Apparently our skipper and Flamini was joined at the hip when together. They certainly gelled and in my opinion could have formed a partnership as good as, if not better, than Vieira and Petit.

Yes, I really did say that.

A loan/permanent move for our former hyperactive midfielder would be good for the club. He is unhappy at Milan and we could do with his drive and determination.

Imagine a midfield of Song, Cesc and Flamini? Pretty solid. Add the likes of Diaby, Ramsey and Denilson . We would have the best midfield options in the league. Proper.

Sorry but there is no real substance in that arguement.

We haven't looked like winning the league since Lehmann left but I am not sure that is any reason to call him back.

We can also say that we did win the Premier League when he was with us but never got a look in.

Neither arguement tells us much.

I have nothing against Flamini as a player or as a person for leaving us (I agree that it was Arsenal's dilly dallying that gave him the opportunity to go) but I do wonder why he is held in such high esteem. One good season, that's all. Before that he was viewed as an average squad player at best.

I can't see what you are struggling to understand!

If the fact you are on about is that Flamini didn't get in the side because of Gilberto then fine but Song also didn't get in the side because of Flamini. I don't see what your arguement with that proves.

Also, you say we were closer to winning the PL with Flamini around but I look at the league today and we are closer to the leaders than we have been at this stage of the season for several years!

Well facts are we came very close to winning the pl with flamini and without him we haven't :?

And whe your aguement is also based around the credentials of Lehmann :?

He was by far a better keeper than al or any of our other incumbents wil be, you would argue in a telephone box on your own so i won't hold my breath waiting for you to admit your wrong

I am not trying to cause an arguement at all.

You said that with Flamini we went closer to winning the league than we have with Song. So even if that fact was true (again, look at our league position/points now comparred with when Flamini had the one decent season) was that down to Flamini completely? No other players had any other influence on that?

So no my arguement is not based around Lehmann and I agree with you he was a better 'keeper than Manuel. Maybe it was having this better 'keeper that got us closer to winning the league in your eyes and nothing to do with Flamini at all. I am only using your logic there.

I just don't see why Flamini was so wonderful. Very good for one season yes but special, erm no!

My arguement also considered other reasonable points such as finances. Flamini will want to secure a large salary, one that we really do not need to be paying when there are other areas of the team that need addressing more, goalkeeper being one which you rightly point to.
From memory, we offered young Mathieu £55k a week which he considered and rejected. Being that he is now on £80k a week at Milan with the top tax bracket being 11.25% compared to our 50% do you really think he will be asking for the same £55k offered to him previously? Will he happily come back for what is in effect a 50% pay cut? No, he will want a large salary which is undeniably above his actual worth and talent. Why do thius when we have Song playing out of his skin to the same level as Flamini and on less wages. Also, what would signing do to Song's confidence?

I will now step out of my phone box and wait for you to tell me what facts above are wrong.

Blimey, Percy Dalton sticking up for Song - you have the might of the funboy three behind you!

I was actually thinking of this point myself the other day - Song v Flamini, Flamini was never in my eyes a "defensive player" he was a harrier, a hard worker and a nuiscance and he was asked to cover every blade of grass to allow Cesc to go forward, but he wasnt a player that would protect the defence - Song allows Cesc much more freedom, hence Cesc much better goal / assist ratio this season.

Flamster had a great season, but that is all it was. If he came back now he would still be behind Song (largely due to the different way we play now but also because I rate Song higher personally). Flamini is still unproven over a sustained period of time in the Prem, id have him back in the squad given the chance, but I actually think we have a better Squad now than we did in 07/08 with Flamini - unfortunately we are suffering more injuries to key players which may be our overall downfall.

I have always stood up for Song!

And I also agree that we play a different system from when Flamini was with us and so his style may not fit.

Flamini did have a great season that year but you're neglecting the fact that so did someone else.........Adebarndoor. Shall we bring him back too?

at the end of the day I'd sign flamini back in a minute, seeing as song is away and the replacements don't have the experience or strength to fill his boots.

So you would sign a player for say £80k a week on shall we say a 4 year contract to cover a player for a month?

No - Because we all know what a lazy and disruptive player he was.

I'm just pointing out that Flamini wasn't the only reason we came close to winning the league. You could just as easily say get rid of Billy Gallas as he caused the implosion of our season at Birmingham.

Flamini had one good season and got himself a nice transfer as a result. Good luck to him but he wouldn't be the same if he came back. Not least at the thought of being Song's understudy, a reversal of roles effectively from 07/08.
