MORE ABOUT DERANGED ARSENAL AWAY FANS

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

No offence, but are you medically qualified enough to attribute David Rocastle's loss of form in the early 1990s to the illness he died from in 2001?

Maybe someone who is medically qualified enough can come on here and prove so, but claiming his playing while riddled with disease sounds like the usual cringemaking mythology that surrounds famous people who die untimely deaths and in my opinion can denigrate their memory as much as ignoring them or speaking ill of them.

Come on Cus,
the guy was a hero to anyone in my generation, I still remember that goal against Man Utd like yesterday, or that solo goal against Middlesboro. The fact remains he is a legend. and should be treated like one

Yes but come on let's keep in proportion and not go overboard Diana-style. It's not as if he's been forgotten, it's the complete opposite. We're singing his name six years after his death, it's as if we're ramming it down people's throats as if it was Del Boy talking about his mum on her death bed.

And as I've pointed out there is no precedent for this with other clubs with players equally as loved, or as important, or key players within a special side in their clubs history, still having fans singing about them years after their death.

i.e. Rangers fans are not forever singing about Davie Cooper, Man Ure fans are not forever singing about Duncan Edwards, Spuds fans are not forever singing about John White.

And as I've pointed out, he's not even the only player that we've had who has had an untimely death.

I didn't see Rocky play but look back on old videos i have (includeing the one on him) & think he looked the bollocks esp the Man Utd goal
We sing there names because we have history & want to pay our respects to the deadman even those like myself who never saw him play, not every player has a song this is why Alan Ball hasn't rung around the stadium despite him being a excellent player & former captain
Today there wasn't any former players names sung besides whben people in the Tollington were singing Ian Wright Wright Wright to a warden
Also noticed that there wasn't a stand up if you hate Tottenham every 5 mins but still fans singing the wanky tottenham at 100mph still & Martin Jol is still in the song, maybe have to put that on hold before they get a new coach 8)

ANY GOONER WHO STANDS UP FOR THE SCUM IS NOT A PROPER GOONER AND IS MORE OF A SCUM HATER THAN AN ARSENAL LOVER.

singing "are you tottenham in disguise " is fair enough cos that is a simple insult that any fan of any club could sing when winning but i repeat anyone who last night stood up to sing "stand up if you hate tottenham" is a complete and utter moron . 1st everyone was standing anyway, secondly why are you so obsessed with them. its pathetic. all you do is give kudos to them because scum think gooners must regard them as big club potential big rival when for last 20 years they have been anything but.

i am sure when i was kid anti scum songs were only sung when we played them and maybe one or two games prior to playing them but now it is ridiculous.

another thing why the obsession with rocastle. is that just cos he happened to score last min winning goal against scum which all you youngsters have seen on dvd etc.. of course he did great for us, of course his early demise was a tragedy but there was a much greater arsenal legend whose achievements for the club far outweigh those of rocastle and who died not too long before him and nobody sings a song about him - george armstrong but then while i have seen him score both goals in 2-0 victory v spurs it weren`t last min winner seen hundreds of time on video etc.

why dont you ever show geordie equal respect and sing his song or dont you know your arsenal history.

so on sat when the atmosphere should be brilliant anyway can you morons forget about your obsession with the scum for one day and sing up for the team rather than make tits of yourselves singing anti - scum songs.

Mate sorry but I disagree with most of your points here. I believe that standing is a way for the away supporters to stand out more and get behind their team. I realize Manure are scum but they did it as so most away fans. I don"t mind who you are playing standing up I believe is a way for the away support to stand out.

Also hating Tottenham is all part of being a Gooner and yes I have thought at times we do over do it. So in a way I agree but sometimes if other Gooners believe in it then why not as some pointed out it is better to sing anto-**** songs then not sing at all. But most of our chants are Arsenal and not about anti-**** so I feel that should not be worried about. Gooners mock them so much because they are or closest rivals like Celtic and Rangers. You see Rangers singing anti-Celtic songs almost every game so that my view on it.

And I don"t know how you can doubt why Rocky is loved so much by Arsenal. He is loved because as Rebel pointed out in the Graham days he was the spark in the team. He was by far the most exciting player. Not only that but he loved Arsenal with a passion. And after his early death he deserves every bit of attention he gets.

There probably was one anti-spud song yesterday so I feel I disagree. Mate really the atmosphere was top class. And 99% of the chants were Arsenal so man I must disagree there.

if Rolys point is they are not a big team so we should not bother singing anti-spud songs I think he is missing the point. As an away gooner who has been spat at had coins thrown at and had to avoid flying road signs on one occasion. It's not the team I hate it's there chav fans who are so full of hate for us they would rather spit and shout at us rather than watch the game.
So if someone ask's me to stand up if you hate spurs, that is what i will do.
And I don't see the down side of singing song's for Rocky. Any song that gets people singing is good for me

Glad the majority are with the "any song's better than none" opinion..Didn't think I'd ever see the day we were being criticised FOR singing...

STAND UP....

maybe i am going deaf but last saturday aggainst the muppets i did not hear the dreaded stand up if you hate tottenham song once and the atmosphere was fantastic.

the next time that song should be sung, if at all, is 22nd december but i know none of my mates would ever twitch a muscle for scum never mind show them respect by standing up.

still if you want to maintain scum fans delusions of their club`s importance your way is as good as any.

no point commenting more about rocky cos we are definitely into diana territory and all objectivity is lost

Perhaps because a greater percentage of people were standing for the whole game than at other games (certainly everyone behind the home goal), therefore no need to start a song to get everyone standing.
