Nigel De Jong

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I dont disagree and all this 'go in hard on Arsenal and they dont like it' shit that is pepetuated by Andy Gray types is one of the reasons we have more of these injuries than others but id hate to see tackling taken out of the game and sometimes these tackles/fouls are committed because of mis-timing as opposed to purposely leg breakers. The tackle in the pic was probably half a second late.... half a second away from being a top class tackle maybe!!!

I think being on the end of the appalling injuries we have suffered makes us all a bit sensitive at times

and as for all this Shawcross is a lovely lads bollocks that just infurates me :tickedoff:

I agree totally flash a well timed challenge can almost bring about as big a roar as a goal!

I think its more the attitude to these challenges in the Premiership and England. When you get people arguing that they are a yellow.

The Shawcross one for example I have had a plastic scouser at work telling me all week it was a yellow card offence! The trouble I have with the Shawcross challenge is the type of challenge he has gone for. He could easily gone along the ground but it was more of a hack and scythe than a challlenge.

The De Jong one I agree it was more mistimed and is nowhere near as high as Shawcross was and a second earlier it would be a clean challenge. But I still believe it was a red card and on this occasion he should hold his hands up "I went for the ball, he nipped in before me, I've caught him high, won't happen again" something along those lines.

If these players got punished they may think more about the type of challenges they chose to employ or try to improve so they don't get beaten to the ball in that way.

Its a poorly timed tackle. Cant believe he didn't get a card though.

I do think though, we lack players like him. Proper rugged midfielder who doesn't stop fighting and hassling.

Melo is that sort of player as well. If we get him we'd never get bullied in midfield again.

Yep another case of "Holden was too quick for de jong" "There was no intent" "It's a part of the game" "Gerrards a c@#t"
