As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
He has improved since reverting to stand in right back, no doubt. But he still has that whining victim attitude every time he gets tackled... and the diving has NOT stopped.
I think alot of pleople are confusing slight improvement and a penchant for being everyone's friend and licking the arse of our away fans with some mythical "new" Eboue having arrived...
I agree with what Radford said (and I find a small amount of vomit comes up when I write this ) I couldn't give a flying fuck if he comes over to the travelling fans. I'd rather a stroppy crunt that gets the job done and pisses off down the tunnel than an idiot that kisses the fans' arses.
I always thought Eboue had very good technical skill with the ball and he has heart. But for me these things are outweighed by his diving (which he still does) over acting and his inability to pick out the right pass or shoot on target on a regular basis. His poor performances far far outweigh his good ones by a mile. The only games where he picked out the right pass regularly was the last two and credit to him - he was very good in those games.
But I believe he will not keep up that level of play for any great period of time and he is always only one moment away from another embarrassing dive.
A reasonable sub for Sagna but no more than that for me.

The same could be said for Song, both have improved a lot but they were so bad they couldnt go any further back.... Both could be replaced by better

Exactly IMHO Flash. Song has improved greatly but he is NOT top quality by a long shot. It's just that he was SO bad that his improvement up to the level of an average player is striking. Let's not forget that he looked decidedly BELOW average against Manure and the chavs.
Also against Porto he started slipping back into his old habit of trying to "play" with the ball and overcomplicate things and he was disposed nearly every time. He needs to keep his game simple. A very improved player but I wouldn't hesitate to replace him with true quality.

poor Rambo, when he got regular starts he was able to replace song billong
The worst thing, Ben (apart from the terrible injury) is we may never know how good he could have become. Eddie still isn't a patch on the player he looked before his break and Diaby too...
Poor Rambo will always be judged in relation to that injury too.
if there's something i've learnt about football is that you'cant have an all-star level first team...you need to built dress-room spirit whit players like #27 and song billong maybe they are good teammates, the famous mr.Wenger "spirit and believe"...but even considering their good season i'm totally agree they are replaceble players
Number 5 wrote:He really wasn't. He was moved forward as Wenger and his staff identified the right back area as the weakest position in the defence. Sagna was signed to make an immediate improvement in this area defensively because Eboue really couldn't defend. Like really. He still can't. Defend. That is.
Eboue is a fantastic player, I agree that he is largely a squad player but players in form (like he is) need to be playing currently
I still maintain that he is a priceless asset to our squad, no ego (note that when he was dropped on Tues after one of his finest periods in a gunners shirt he was still supporting the team, geeing the side up shaking hands at HT - soemthing that should be expected from everyone but not always seen), versitile with no demands to play in a specific position and will fight for the cause whereever he is put, for however much of the game. Plus, he is a very good player, with great skill on the ball and is probably the best dribber of the ball in our squad at driving the opposition back. Remember when we used to drop points at Highbury and to a lesser extent the Emirates due to sides "parking the bus"? Eboue is the sort of player that unlocks teams like that, be it from defence, in midfield or as parrt of the forward three.
Now he appears to have gained some compsore in the final third as well, and is becoming influential on games either from the start or the bench. Eboue was excellent in 2005-2006, and although his performances have dropped in the interim he appears to playing some of his best football now(as most do around his age). Its remarkable the way he has come back after the stick he took, he is clearly a popular member of the squad and I love the way he really wants to do well for Arsenal (note his snub to Adebayor after his antics in the City game, one of his supposed big pals the previous season). A lot of people say they feel an outsider to the new Arsenal, well Eboue bridges that gap and really looks like he wants to play for the fans as well as the team - he is someone we should be proud of wearing the shirt.
He appears to splt the fans, which is understandable - but for me, he is a good player that is often slated unjustly, look under "scapegoat" in the dictionary and you might well see Eboue's cheeky grin!
