Tony Adams for England

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Sorry Smoothy but I too have my doubts about TA to be the No.1 in a massive job like England or Arsenal if you remember when he did the pundit thing for ITV for the Sparta qualifier at the end of Aug he was terrible prompting the "is Adams back on the sauce" thread!
On Gillette Soccer Special about a month ago Paul Merson made an offhand remark when questioned about Adams, sayin "well he doesn't know anything about the game to be fair" which had Jeff Stelling and co. pissing themselves cos they thought Merson was takin the piss but he turned with a poker face and said "no I'm serious if he was here commentating today on say Everton you'd be lucky if he could name two players"!
Havin said all that it's become apparent that Adams was approached 9 months to be a key member of the coaching staff for England but turned it down because he didn't want to be associated with such a shambles, after having learned his trade under AW and across Europe at clubs like Feyenoord, and I know Ian Ridley from the Mail knows Adams very well and is on record as wanting the FA to improve the set up and approach Adams again to offer him the position of No.2 under Rafa Benitez who is maybe on his way out of Anfield!

NO! i wouldn't wish that job on my worst enemy, why would you want an Arsenal Legend drinking from that poisoned chalice that is the Ing-er-lund job? i for one am not particularly pleased by the idea of TA being the tabloid's whipping boy, and you know they'll be worse than usual because he's a former Arsenal player.

GIVEN HIS PREVIOUS PROBLEMS, I DON'T THINK WE WANT OUR GLORIOUS EX-CAPTAIN DRINKING FROM ANY KIND OF VESSEL!! UNLESS IT WAS A SOFT DRINK, OF COURSE! 8)

How about the biggest man in English football, apart from Wenger? The man that knows all about English football, it's history and the mentality of English players but also has been sitting next to the biggest man in world football for 10 years. Yes, I'm talking about Pat Rice!

Not that I think he'd be stupied enough to say yes though  . Can't believe anyone would want to manage England. The only way you'll be describde as succesful is if you win every competition you enter.

I'M NOT SAYING PAT RICE WOULD BE A GOOD MANAGER FOR ANYONE, LET ALONE ENGLAND, BUT AS A MATTER OF INTEREST DIDN'T HE HAVE A RECORD OF PLAYED 4, WON 4, AS MANAGER OF ARSENAL IN BETWEEN RIOCH AND WENGER'S STEWARDSHIP OF THE CLUB? :?
