North London Derby Memories...

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Come to think of it, I've sustained a few injuries on derby day...

In the game someone mentioned earlier when Freddie scored that deflected winner, I was in the upper tier of the North Bank in a seat next to one of the stairways. The place (and I) went absolutely ballistic which led to me stumbling down the stairs and fracturing my wrist! All worth it!

Also, in the game where Lauren scored that penalty, I turned away as he stepped up to take it (I just could not watch). I knew we scored because my brother grabbed me and screamed at the top of his lungs right in my ear, which left me a bit mutton in that ear for a couple of weeks! All worth it!

Probably my most nostalgic NLD was in '96 when I was sat downstairs in the East Stand getting fucking soaked but got to see TA6 and DB10 score two screamers! "We beat the scum 3-1!"

Wasn't at the Lane in '04 but I watched it in the Gunners and that was fucking unbelievable. The whole day; from Chelsea losing at Newcastle all the way to getting on Sky Sports News after the game and shouting "are you watching Tottenham?" down the camera! Good times.

Only been to a NLD at the Lane once. That was when Poyet scored in the last minute thanks to a Richard Wright fuck up. Not much to mention about that one...

My 1st NLD was at the cup semi final in old trafford a few years ago with glenda hoddle back with them as manager. Myself & the good wife travelled over on the sat night and I had warned her going over that the Gooners & y*d army did not get on at all but she assumed I was exagerating. On trip in from the airport the taxi driver said to us just before we arrived at the hotel(jurys inn) that we should avoid the town centre as there had been trouble between both sets of fans and with that he turned onto the road where the hotel and all we could see was cops everywhere(inc the mounted police) and ambulances with some fans well hurt. A battle had broken out in the hotel bar and the place was thrashed(every single glass in the place was broken) and the bar was shut for 2 full days to fix the damage. The following morning in the breakfast room you could cut the tension with a knife with no fans wearing colours and everybody sizing each other up - it's funny looking back at it now but it wasnt at the time especially for the wife who thought she had landed in the middle of world war 3

The following day we were out near the ground on the way to the match and there were thousands of fans and cops everywhere and the two of us were crossing the road at a pedestrian crossing when we met a group of about 6 y*d fans going the other direction. Just as they were walking past us one of them turned and shouted into my ear "scum". I thought that there were indeed brave men to face just 1 man & his wife when there was only 6 of them

Needless to say after the game us Gooners dished out the stick in barrowloads - my favourite chants were "you've got your tottenham back" a reference to their statements when GG was sacked to bring back glenda & "2-1, we beat the scum 2-1". Glorious happy happy day

I think my 1st nld was wembley semi final Gazza wonder goal etc. My worst football game ever....
But was at shyt heart lane for 5 . 4 that was great and 2 nil and you f@cked it up in cup. Been to Lane 3 or 4 times never lost.
Worst thing about spuds.. the fans are thick animals walking out of Lane after you have won is never nice.

Some very interesting stories, the funniest thing is: they aren't as good as us and they try to venture out their frustration by fighting. Jealous bastards :!:

When we beat them at Old trafford in the fa cup semi final me and my mate got spat at, had beer thrown at us and were generally abused! That was before we turned them over - on the way home we got stuck in traffic on the M6 and all the twats were singing was "keown, he's got a monkeys head". Lets all rejoice in how great our lives are compared to them

My 1st was 93 Cup Semi.

Had to stand on that bench thing they brought in after the Taylor Report to see Adams's goal because everyone else was.

And yet terraces were supposed to be unsafe!

My dad was at WHL 71. He had to fight he way past the guy trying to close the gate and he had to watch in the Spurs end

you would have thought it occurred to someone to not let the spuds out of the stadium until all of ours were safely away from the shit hole.

My first North London Derby was around 89-90 (Dad would never take me to it before then as I was under 10 years old and it meant my teenage brothers had to go on the North Bank, which wasn't that safe when you played Spurs). The game saw Tony Adams score with a right-foot volley in front of the North Bank, in off the post, we won 1-0. I remember my brother buying a Donkey Wins The Derby t-shirt the week after.
