Anelka

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

All of this is hypothetical, and I'm sure Wenger won't be considering getting Anelka back in, but, just supposing......

A lot depends on what Eduardo does in the next few weeks. We certainly need a striker to produce the goods alongside RvP and Ade, esp as Ade is always going to blow hot and cold. If Eduardo starts firing in our crucial December period, then no, we don't need anyone else and we should focus on getting a left winger only.

But if Eduardo continues to be a Crozilian David Healy (great for country, anonymous for club), then we should go out and get some quality, since we mustn't end up looking back at this season and thinking "What if?"

If we were to be in that position, Anelka would definitely fit the bill - quality, experienced striker, knows the Prem League, not Euro cup-tied, can play at the highest level, would likely leave his club and keen on joining us. It would obviously put out Ade, Eduardo, Bendtner and Walcott, but we all know the quality is a bit thin up front, with lots of possibilities but less than we'd like in terms of proven ability. Anyway making a signing like that might lift the whole squad and the fans, even if it pisses off one or two of the strikers.

I hated the way Anelka left first time, but my anger was more targeted at Real Bastard Madrid than the teenage tit that was Nicolas Anelka. (Apologies to all teenage forum members...) Anelka is clearly a different person than he was 10 years ago or even 5 years ago, and, if Wenger decided to go and get him, I would say let bygones be bygones. Anyway, since the money was used to buy Henry, there is always the retrospective consolation that the sale ultimately served our interests much better than either Anelka's or Real's.

(By the way, there will be no forgiving that treacherous c***, Ashley Cole. Ever.)

Why is he so different to Cashley then? If you ask me its a v similar situation.

If you read Flash gunners reply earlier in the thread it sums up how i feel exactly

I'm a complex character, full of contradictions, I would never claim to be consistent.

There probably are differences though: Anelka was a teenager; Cashley was a grown man. Cashley joined bitter and local rivals. We never grew to adore Anelka but cole was a hero, and one who had come through our youth ranks at that.

But I accept your point, there is a contradiction. What can I say? I just hate Cashley for the way he left more than I hate Anelka.
