No one can replace him? Yeah, just like no one could replace GG, or Bertie Mee, or Herbert Chapman....

With that "Wenger-is-god" attitude from some of our fans we'll be going nowhere, in fact we'll slip further and be overtaken by the spuds before you know it. :?
In truth though we were never as good again after Herbert.....

Wenger is a fvckin legend
No, Wenger was a legend. As each year goes by with no action taken, we fall back a little more toward the chasing pack and his status/reputation at Arsenal takes a further knock too.
I wonder what the reaction of the Wenger lovers would be if he only brings in Chamakh and a half decent CB, and we finish outside the top 4 next season? Would he still be a legend? Would he still 'know', Would he deserve another contract?

Arsene Wenger is the best manager in the league other than red nose and probably the second best in Europe.

I am a HUGE Arsene Wenger fan.

In my book, the day he leaves Arsenal will be a very sad day indeed.

The man has not only brought us success. He has brought us style.

He also has faults. Who doesn't?

I don't understand why he persists in picking players who most of us consider to be mediocre, or worse. (Although Song has proved us all wrong, and Eboue has now become worthy of respect)

I don't understand why he didn't bring in a couple of experieced players when he had the opportunity. (Forget Sylvestre, that was another mistake)

I don't understand why we don't have a better than average goalkeeper.

What I do understand is that Arsene has never had a huge chequebook to play with. So he has persisted with a plan of reliance on youth, and excellent coaching. It nearly worked, too. We ought to have won at least one more title. But the wheels came off after Eduardo had his leg smashed at Birmingham.

Managers are ultimately judged on results.

Therefor, Ferguson is a far better manager than Wenger.

Except that he was, at one point, only one bad result away from being sacked as incompetent. And except that he had the fattest chequebook in the land for many years. There is no way he would have won so much, if he had limited resources.

So. Let's cut Arsene some slack.

He's got one year left of his contract. And will probably choose to leave after that.

There is no point in calling for his head.

Nice post, Olgit - but I'd be very surprised if Wenger walked away next summer. He'll be begged to stay by the board and I'm sure he'll want to see his project come to fruition if possible.

we are not just at Europe's top table but in the KO stages year after year after year
and have built and mostly paid for a new stadium

to call that a failure is simply unrealistic
the failure would be after all that to be taken-over and a new board/owner to prevent the massive income streams from being tapped into

wenger is a special manager I honestly don't think theres another in the world who could have delivered what he has - net transfer income and stay contenders in the CL and the prem
the luck/killer instinct hasn't been with us to translate being contenders into winning
but I personally don't think we would have necessarily been any better if Wenger had spent big

yes if we 'just' bought a keeper this year we would prob have won the league
but if we had 'just' bought a def mid (which was the consensus position we needed to strengthen in) we wouldnt have seen Song push on to be the class player he is now

its easy to be right with hindsight

Wengers stubborn sticking to his guns (I hated seeing TH start upfront when we had the clearly better Suker AND take fks when DB10 obv should be) has generally served him better than his big money signings
