Isn't there some rule that means that players approaching 30 have their transfer value reflected a a multiple of their salary ?
If so, that may well be dearer than the real fee.
The wages and the signing on fee would be another thing though.
Unfortunately in this current inflated market there hasn't been any precedent set for the transfer of a 30+player who is world class.
In the old market a player at that age would go for cheap excluding signing on fee and wages but do you think Lampard or Gerrard would go for anything less than £20mill in this current market?

I agree with the earlier poster who said a change is manager is the thing we most need.
But what has the Club or the Board done since 2005 that makes you confident that they would spend any more than the manager now? Not what have they said but what have they DONE that makes you believe a new manager would be backed to invest at the level required?
Its not about Arsene knows or doesn't know but whethter anybody at the club knows right now. Its pointless to sack the manager if his replacement cannnot or will not spend anymore. I think we should be certain that a new manager will represent a genuine way forward for Arsenal, and I'm not confident that is the case at this point.
Cesc is the heartbeat of this team and losing him would mean we'd have to find a completely new balance to the way we play, and that means.... transition. Again.
Cesc has 4 more years (I think) under contract, and therefore Arsenal should, in theory, be in a strong position to decide his future (although, sadly it doesn't seem to work like that). If ever we need to hold onto a player against his will, it's now - losing him would be a disaster and the thought of watching an Arsenal team next season with Almunia or Flappy in goal and NO Cesc in the side would be too much to take!
I still think Cesc will stay, but Arsenal and/or Cesc don't seem to be pouring cold water on the rumours like they normally do, and that concerns me!

Dont do anything stupid g88ner!!!! Ive never read such a downbeat post from you.

I added a slightly 'upbeat' sentence just before you replied....

Nothing will be done before June 1st.
If Cesc goes, then the money will not be reinvested in the team.
Investement is needed without Cesc going.
I can't see anything positve happening.
I'm going to Hull....and not even Phil brown will be able to stop me
When PV4,Henry and Pires left they were still good players but were on the downside of their careers but Cesc is different he is only 23 and still to reach his peak. When he goes and he will it will be like when Brady left.We could get £50-60m for Cesc but does anyone really believe Wenger will spend it.After all look what he did with the £41m we got from Man City

50-60mil, not a chance, the club will let Cesc go for way short of what we could get, most likely a player (ya ya) and about 10-15 mil tops.
If cash only deal than 25-30 mil.
Our history dictates that every summer we make a big sale.
Rules are there to be broken but if this 'tradition' is true or will happen I can't see who else it will be other then Cesc. Maybe Andrei?
I don't won't Cesc to go.
The sad fact is we know it's a case of 'when' and not 'if'.
Cesc made some comments about his future being settled before the World cup. This is also the same time frame AW is wishing to complete all his transfers.
Could Cesc be waiting to see what the summer brings for us?
As already mentioned this is a crucial summer for us. For Cesc and indeed for Wenger.
