As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

If we lose fabregas, its like starting from square one, new captain new head of midfield new arsenal hero needed altogether.
Vermaelen new captain then?? Nasri takes position of Cesc?
Almunia was captain when Cesc was out last season so i guess he will take over
I'd be fucking astounded if Arsene did that. Surely even he couldn't be that fucking stupid ? (and I am normally more of a "rosetinter")
I honestly dont think this is about the money and feel that even 80m wouldnt compensate us. I have argued for a few years now that once you start selling your best players you will be perceived, outside england at least, as a selling club and no top player would want to join us Is there a price you could put on that ? At that stage having all the money in the world wouldnt entice top players like buffon etc to join us
Personally I think if cesc goes then wenger has no choice but to go - it is one thing losing the confidence of the fans (or some of them at least) but it is another thing entirely when he loses the confidence of his captain and top player. What kind of message will that then send rvp, tv5 and arshavin ? I think it would quickly become a race to see who can get out of town the quickest
does anyone think that arshavin might take cescs role next season?
I think that would suit him more than playing out wide where he is clearly wasted tbh! But i think it would only suit him if he was playing further forward behind Rvp and have song and another top class DM covering behind!
Is that a good idea or just dreaming cos we kow our stubborn manager will proably play denilshit in cesc role and sign no one

But Arshavin is so lazy. Cesc's position requires you to set the pace of the entire team. Arshavin is unlikely to track back enough, and is probably not fit enough for the job.
Iniesta + serious cash would stop me from weeping. Although that won't happen.
And correct me if I'm wrong but did Cesc not sort out his future when he signed a contract until 2014?

I'm absolutely sure Arsene and the board don't want Cesc to go but equally we all know that Cesc wants to go back sometime and in all honesty, after the past few seasons who can blame him if that's now? The big problem for the club is that if you let your best player go, just how do you appease the fans? You can't, plain and simple. If I was any other player at Arsenal I would view the sale of Cesc as a statement of lack of ambition and I would be on to my agent straight away for a move. Once again, this is Wengers fault for letting the team fester like he has for the past few seasons.
However, in my ideal world, if Cesc insisted on going, I would feel somewhat better if we signed Joe Hart - 10m, Brede Hangeland 10m, James Milner - 25m, Mikael Arteta - 15m and Shaun Wright Phillips - 8m......guess I can dream.
I get the feeling Fabregas maybe angling for a move now, fine let him go.......BUT we get top dollar £50-£60m and INVEST all that plus what is available now, so £100m.
Big players have left before, the club moves on..........i support Arsenal NOT individual players.
By selling Fabregas Wenger will be putting himself under even more pressure for next season.
The grass ain't always greener, as MANY players have found out.
Arsenal don't i believe need to sell, so if he does go it will be because the player wanted to or an offer to good to turn down was made.
Either way i'd still be there at the start of the season like i have for the last 34 years...........may have the odd moan, but still there.
According to Guilleme Balague (pinch of salt, I know!):
.....Cesc Fabregas has told Arsene Wenger today that he wishes to leave Arsenal this summer in order to return to FC Barcelona. The Spanish midfielder flew into London for talks with the Arsenal coach today for a meeting that will prove decisive in determining his future. Fabregas recently made clear his desire to play for Barcelona, should he ever leave Arsenal, and emphasised that he would like his future sorted before the World Cup finals in June.
Fabregas has now informed Wenger of his desire to play for Barcelona next season and the Spanish club understands that the Premier League club will demand a fee in the region of £30 - £35 million. If Arsenal were to insist on a fee in excess of that figure, it may prove too high for Barcelona who feel that while a deal could still be done, it would be difficult.
Cesc Fabregas left Barcelona in 2003 to sign for Arsenal when he was 16 years old in a move that angered the Spanish club who felt that the Premier League side had exploited a Spanish employment law that prevented Barcelona from tying him to a professional contract. Consequently, Barcelona feel that Arsenal should be willing to negotiate as they would have little grounds for complaint if Barcelona were to aggresively bid for the player.
To be honest, if fabregas goes then wenger should go. Fabregas epitomises everything that wenger was trying to achieve here over the last few years and his leaving will be a sign of failure.
In addition, should fabregas leave we need to spend a huge sum of money on a new creative midfielder. Arshavin and Nasri are not up to the job and neither have the desire or strength required to carry the team as cesc did last season at times.
I'd be gutted if he goes to be honest. 22 is too young to return to Barce. We've been walked all over throughout this transfer saga - it's about time Wenger grew a pair and came out and told barce and their media links to fuck off.

He's 23. Please don't tell me you missed his birthday and didn't send a card?
If he goes it's your fault!
I would like to ask : how many times have you heard Cesc say that he want’s to go?
I only have heard him saying that he is an Arsenal player and that he still has a contract. All the rest we never heard him say but are words put in his mouth by the media.
Haha is he 23? That was a quiet birthday haha - mustve been in spain
Thats very true actually - whenever cesc comes out and speaks to the media he just says he's happy and in no rush to leave. I've heard nothing official from either club on this story. Even cesc's quote the other day was twisted out of all proportion. He said he wanted his future sorted yes, but he also said he was in no rush to leave.
