On the subject of David Dein calling a press conference to announce the whole Red & White business, I said that if it were true, I'd eat my hat. Obviously, that came to fruition. Now, my pledge to eat my hat again is a bit of a pre-emptive double jinx...if that makes sense.flash gunner wrote:What happened last time you said that? 26 POINTS FROM 30?
ALTHOUGH IF WE PLAYED REALLY WELL IT IS A POSSIBILITY, TO SAY IT SO BLASE AS IF ALL WE NEED TO DO IS SHOW UP TO GET THE POINTS, IS FOOLISH IN THE EXTREME. THIS IS THE ENGLISH PREMIERSHIP - NOT CHAMPIONSHIP MANAGER (OR WHATEVER THEM COMPUTER GAMES ARE CALLED)!!
MY GOD, WHATEVER HAPPENED TO TAKING ONE GAME AT A TIME?

I emphasise, 8 wins and 2 draws from that lot should be gettable - we could screw it up, of course, and you can look at any game (even against Derby) and find a way of saying it'll be tough. But the reality is the fixtures in Jan to mid-March are as good as we could have hoped given African Nations and given that is the key part of the season. If we get through December in ok shape, we should be able to capitalise on our position and get to the climactic April period in a good position.I Hate Hleb wrote:26 POINTS FROM 30?ALTHOUGH IF WE PLAYED REALLY WELL IT IS A POSSIBILITY, TO SAY IT SO BLASE AS IF ALL WE NEED TO DO IS SHOW UP TO GET THE POINTS, IS FOOLISH IN THE EXTREME. I could say we'll get at least 4 points from the 10 games, possibly, maybe, theoretically, perhaps, if we're lucky etc. But that's just plain boring. Blimey O'Reilly IHH, relax, live a bit. Have a toke if that's going to help.

COULD WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER WORD THAN SHOULD AS THE FIRST STATES WHAT'S POSSIBLE, WHILE THE LATTER PRESUMES THAT IT IS ALMOST INEVITABLE!!26may1989 wrote:There's been plenty of talk of our mega December fixture list but has anyone noticed how kind January to mid-March is:
West Ham (h)
Brum (h)
Fulham (a)
Newcastle (h)
Man City (a)
Blackburn (h)
Brum (a)
Villa (h)
Wigan (a)
Boro (h)
Unless our form changes completely, that should be a minimum of 26 points out of 30....
AS ONE OF THE MORE 'NERVOUS' AND SUPERSTITIOUS MEMBERS OF THE FORUM, I'D JUST PREFER IT IF WE DIDN'T GET TOO AHEAD OF OURSELVES OR START COMING ACROSS AS ARROGANT.
I THINK THAT THE REST OF YOUR ANALYSIS IS MORE OR LESS SPOT ON.26may1989 wrote:..After that, things get tougher: Chelsea (a), Bolton (a), Liverpool (h) and Man U (a) in the space of three weeks, with the Champs' League QFs in between. But we then have some easy-ish league games to finish: Reading (h), Derby (a), Everton (h) and Sunderland (a) (Champs' League SFs then too).
If (still a big if) we get to the end of December in good shape, we can be optimistic about getting to mid-March on top or at the very least a close second. So we could go into our very intense April period with the pressure very much on our opponents.
Or we could screw it all up and be nowhere.

AS FOR CONSUMING EVEN MORE 'GEAR' TO ENABLE ME TO CHILL OUT - I COULDN'T EVEN IF I WANTED TO!! EVERY MINUTE OF THE DAY IS SPENT TOKING, AND I COULDN'T BE MORE CHILLED EVEN IF I WERE STUCK IN A BUTCHER'S FREEZER FOR A WEEKEND!
