Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas admits he is torn between a move to Barcelona or remaining in north London.

Fabregas has long been linked with a return to Barca, the club where he started his career as a youth player, but Arsenal are unwilling to let one of their star players leave and have already turned down a £29million bid from the Catalan giants.

"I'm a Barca fan, I'm a socio, as is my grandfather, my uncle, my cousin… I have felt the colours from a young age, I'm Catalan. However, I'm the captain of Arsenal, I'm a 'Gunner', and I have become a player there and matured as a person," Fabregas said in an interview to magazine DIR Emotions.

During that time, Fabregas has grown up under the tutelage of Arsene Wenger and the Spain midfielder says the Arsenal coach is like a second father for him.

"He is a second father for me, the most important person in my life after my father. He has behaved really well with me and taken me in like a son. I am part of his family," he said.

"He doesn't want me to leave. And in my last conversation with him in London, it was one of the most difficult moments I have experienced. I ended up very upset."

Problem is, any lingering doubts Cesc had about our ambitions for next season havent exactly been quashed have they? He's still going to have to carry the team at this rate :banghead:

looks like we may end up keeping a want away player then? :? you would think AW would try and appease our prize asset with a quality signing or two, a sign of intent that we are indeed a big club and he can be part of a winning side.

But he also has to appease the Board and make sure we don't go bankrupt something which is only possible because of their borrowing far more money than they should have for the property mangement projects which so far have only hurt Arsenal Football Club on the pitch but made a number of already-wathy major shareholders even richer off it.

Well that would be the clever thing to do. This is what most world class Managers would do. Though i think an ageing Manager who is quite obviously loosing the plot would tell cesc.... "Denislon is back soon, its like a new signing"

I am beginning to agree with USM. If we think back between 98 and 2000, AW always added a decent player that always took us forward but since the move we've had nothing. Ladyboywhore was the last decent bit of quality that we've bought since Chelsea started inflating prices and we built a new stadium.

He never used to be afraid of spending if it was to bring in quality. He spent £12-17million on Reyes in Jan 2004,£13million on Wiltord even £8million was quite a bit for Jeffers. Now in 2010 we won't spend more than a max of £12-£15 million on a player.

I think if he had the cash he would bring in quality. The problem is thanks to moneybags Chelski and City, prices for players are a joke. We need a premier league experienced defender but come on how the hell can Jagielka and Gary Cahill be worth £15million pounds when we paid £10 million for a younger Vermalen or a World cup proven Mertesacker ?

I hope he stays but right now I think like a lot of people I've stopped caring. If Cesc hands in a transfer request, my worry is the board will give the transfer money to our bankers and even if they didn't, everyone will start to take the p*** even more with prices because AW would allegedly have money to spend .

Barcelona sporting vice-president Josep Maria Bartomeu says the Spanish champions "respect" Arsenal's wish not to sell Cesc Fabregas and insists there is no dialogue between the two clubs at present.

Cesc Fabregas featured as a substitute in all but one of Spain's World Cup matches.

• Wenger wants defensive recruits
• Puyol: Cesc wants to leave

Barcelona failed with a €35 million offer for their academy graduate earlier this summer and, whether through club officials or players, had consistently voiced the opinion that a deal will be done for Fabregas, who has told Arsene Wenger he wants to return to Camp Nou.

But Barca's bullish approach to the Fabregas deal under former president Joan Laporta was not viewed favourably by Arsenal and his successor, Sandro Rosell, has adopted a more conciliatory tone. Rosell recently admitted that a deal may be unlikely this summer, even if he remains convinced Fabregas will join the club within 12 months.

The Catalan press reported on Friday that Fabregas will again inform Wenger of his desire to leave, having returned to London following a holiday in Greece, but Bartomeu has suggested that with Arsenal still refusing to negotiate, Barca do not expect a transfer to happen before the close of the summer transfer window.

"Both [sporting director] Andoni Zubizarreta and coach Pep Guardiola want Fabregas, but it is very difficult to return to an improved relationship with Arsenal," Bartomeu told Sport.

"We talked to the club and they told us that Fabregas was non-transferable. And there are no imminent negotiations in place because they do not want to sell.

"We would like very much that the relationship between Fabregas and his manager, Arsene Wenger, return to normal. And we respect Arsenal's decision not to sell."

Sell him.....it needs to be done...im fed up with this nigh on three month set of pressure tactics upon Fabregas. Its been a mare for Arsenal since we ended the season vs. Fulham. Plus i suppose he has had his head turned since the injury ironically at the hands of Puyol in the CL.

Time to count the money and watch our club do what they do best....
