Width creates itself from clichy and sagna getting forward?
AA gets to play in his preferred position?
Fabregas and Nasri can interchange quite happily and will have free roles
I like that.

Think AA is better suited to the position you have him in than those who suggest Cesc is, because Cesc needs to be a little deeper to focus on the strengths of his passing, whereas AA is faster on the ball running into the box.
no width.

sagna and clichy are too poor attacking/finishing/crossing for that formation to work. we need wide players

Nasri

Post by peeps112 »

I find it absolutely comical that many posters have simply excluded Nasri in the starting lineup for Diaby, Wilshire, Walcott, what have you. Here is a hint, one that Wenger knows whether Samir is 5'7'' or a midget - he has been our best player in pre-season by a country mile. He is in any starting lineup no matter what formation we play.

I really believe that Nasri is due for a starring role this year. He has been absolutely dynamite in Cesc's advanced role in pre-season and I wouldn't mind if he played it during the season with Cesc back in front of Song.

In my opinion, our best lineup looks something like this:

----------Almunia---------------
Sagna -----Kos------TV5--------Clichy
------------------Song----------------
------------------Nasri----------------
Arshavin--------Cesc--------------RVP
-----------------Chamakh-----------------

Chamakh is an excellent holding forward, something RVP is not and did not show himself to be during the world cup. He is a dynamic player, no doubt, but not one to do the grunt work. Plus, Chamakh showed himself to be very good at holding the ball up and doing combinations.

I think that Nasri and Cesc are both best in the advanced role but because of our abundant offensive talent we need one to sit in there. Nasri is better suited in the middle than out wide and Cesc gets the advanced nod simply because he has proven effective during a season there.

My predicted lineup when all healthy:

---------------------Almunia------------------
Sagna--------Kos-----------TV5--------Clichy
----------------------Song--------------------
----------------------Diaby-------------------
Arshavin-------------Cesc---------------Nasri
---------------------RVP---------------------

I cringe seeing Diaby on the starting lineup because he is wasteful of his immense talent but Wenger simply loves the lad. I would love to see Nasri slotted in the midfield and RVP on the left with Chamakh up top, as demonstrated above, but I cannot see Wenger doing that. I would also love to see Wilshire slotted in Diaby's role but fear that that makes our midfield too small.

My predicted lineup for Liverpool:

---------------------Almunia----------------
Sagna----------Kos------TV5----------Clichy
---------------------Song/Frimpong--------------
----------------------Diaby/Wilshire--------------
Arshavin-------------Nasri---------------Walcott
------------------Chamakh--------------------

I would be comfortable with that lineup. Assuming Song and Diaby are healthy enough to play, they will start. I can only hope that Denilson does not catch the bus on time.

In your preferred line up, I would not have RvP wide left, as he is not good in that position. I prefer Cesc to sit deeper than Nasri, who has a bit more pace so is more effective when running into the box. Cesc is the better passer, and did well last season passing from deep. But not too deep, where he gets lost.

BG, yes, we lose a natural wide player in my formation, but we do not really have a natural winger in the squad, except perhaps Traore?

After the showing versus Warsaw, think we need to start with a 4-2-3-1 to help out the defence. Team up Song and Frimpong in front of defence, though probably will be Denilson instead of Frimpong who gets the nod if he is fit.

I'd be happy with a 10-0-0. We'd still ship three goals, at least.

As I've said in a previous thread, a new £10m signing isn't going to be left on the bench. Koscielny will play whether you or I like it or not (and I still say he should be given a chance).

AW won't have the bollocks to play Wilshere. He'll languish on the bench all year long.

Fabregas and RVP will be licking their "wounds" from the World Cup.

I'd guess at: Almunia, Clichy, Koscielny, Vermaelen, Sagna, Rosicky, Song, Diaby, Nasri, Arshavin, Chamakh.

I wasn't predicting Wenger's team, I was saying what I'd like to see!

If Cesc or RVP don't play I'll go and support Tottenham.

Fuck me I can hear Wenger and the rosetinters's excuses already next Sunday:

'We were without our two best players. Played em off the park until their lucky four goals'

Ah right, sorry. In that case, I'd probably agree with your selection (Koscielny exclusion aside).
