Koz, for me at this early stage, is not a patch on Gallas.

Squillaci no spring chicken and remains to be seen whether he can bring a similar spirit to that of Campbell.

We finished the season with Bendtner, Eduardo and RVP up front now all we have is Chamakh. No use saying RVP will be back soon cos he won't and Bendtner is/was never good enough in the first place.

So, for me, we're probably in a weaker position now than in May.
I think Kos and Squillachi are fitter, and less injury prone than both Gallas and Campbell. Guess we'll have to wait and see on these too.

Bendtner isn't still a world beater as you mentioned, Eduardo wasn't good enough and RVP isn't reliable. So yes, a consistent striker with aerial abillity, good team work and hopefully one who can last a whole season is a big plus in comparison to last season.

Fucking hell this defending of wenger is laughable!

He identified the need for a new goalkeeper, that is fine! What is fucking daft is that he then put all his eggs in one basket with no contingency plan.

The end result being that we are now reliant on two goalkeepers who Wenger obviously does not feel comfortable with being our permamnent No.1 this season and whose confidence msut now be shot to bits. Or was Wenger trying to buy Schwarzer to stick him on the bench? Erm..........nope!

Wenger himself said before the Blackpool game that the goalkeepers at the club were having difficulty with the situation and that fact will remain! They are only going to be in the side because Arsene could not get anyone else suitable in!

Wonderful man management that!

who's that then? 56 goals in 230 french league appearances does not scream quality to me...not to mention wenger was un-willing to pay for him when we desperately needed him when all of our strikers were injured

as for the defenders...don't know about squacalli (sp?) but kosy doesn't exactly have a proven record does he? 1 season in top flight (french) football which lets be honest might as well be the SPL

these transfers hardly inspire confidence...

can only hope i'm wrong and they come good.

What we needed was a stronger squad than last year to be able to win the league this time around.

Everyone agreed that the makings of a winning team were there but one or two areas, namely defence, keeper and defensive midfield, needed sorting out.

We sold eduardo and brought in chamakh. I reckon that's a good bit of business and will strengthen us. Having said that, Bendtner is out until the new year and now RVP looks injured again. We're a bit lightweight upfront AGAIN, ALREADY.

Defence, we got rid of Senderos, Gallas, Campbell and Silvestre. Senderos didnt play last year so that wont be a miss. Gallas and Campbell were pretty good last year. We've replaced them with Squillaci and Koscielny - neither of whom have any premier league experience.

In my opinion we're slightly weaker in defence this year purely through inexperience. i don't think we can count Djourou as he's going to be injured all year.

Goalkeeper? We're the same as last year.

Defensive midfield? Same as last year.

On the whole therefore, we go into the bulk of this season WEAKER than we were last year or at the very most the same as we were last year - which wasnt good enough!!

My retarded friend Percy ( ) is making a very pertinent point here. How must Coco and Flappy be feeling knowing they're only in the job because he couldn't get someone else? Brilliant bit of work by Arsene... :?

Skysports just confirmed Schwartzer stayed put and we wont have signed anyone else, so thats a number one goalkeeper who wenger basically publicly ousted.

Emmanuel Adebayor 33 goals in 123 French League appearances.. Went on to score 30 goals in a season for us. Didier Drogba 144 appearances in French football 50 goals before he joined Chelsea.

Chamakh has also scored 16 goals in his previous 2 seasons.

Cham showed his qualities in all 3 matches he played so far this season. He's the one that "assisted" Reina with his goal back at Anfield, he found himself in good positions in Blackpool (missed a couple of sitters, but the goals will come), and for me one of the best players against Blackburn, Brilliant aerial abillity, good with his back to goal, can hold up the ball for hours, and much more.

As for the defenders. You judge Kos for two official matches, one which he was very good in, and the other when he made one big mistake (otherwise, he had a solid performance). Hopefully he can learn from his mistakes and we don't have to pay high price for them (just like any defender who comes to any club).

brazilianGOONER wrote:DanielD, i get your point. what i don't get is this:

now that we signed a striker and a couple of defenders, it's pretty obvious that almost all of our weaknesses from last season have been addressed. however, the fact that wenger made a bid for schwarzer shows you that he also realises that we must improve our goalkeeping situation.

now, if we are well financially and we spent LESS THAN TEN FUCKING MILLION POUNDS NET IN THIS WINDOW FFS, why doesn't he address the only weakness left in the squad, and one that can cost you so many points during a season?

i don't give a fuck about schwarzer or buffon or whoever. i just wanted a new, improved keeper, and you MUST agree with me that there are at least 20 keepers out there who are better than almunia.

now, will you tell me that a club who's supposedly cash rich, that plays attractive football and champions league every season, isn't able to convince ONE of those clubs and keeper to agree a deal?

it's a massive weakness in our squad, and it will continue to be so for another season.

i'm shocked.
As I said, I agree that Almunia isn't good enough.

My only guess is that there are no available GK's in the market, that fits the club in terms of fee and wages.
every keeper is in the market, daniel. it's up to how well you bid for him. and if we really had 30M to spend (and some people said we had 40M), how the fuck we spent less than 10 and kept with the worst problem of our squad? how is that good business?

it's unnaceptable. end of.
