Sportsmen who went on too long

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Sportsmen who went on too long

Post by lowerwest »

Being thinking about this today in the light of Flintoff retiring. Dont half wring it out some of these guys dont they. Pretty obvious he was hanging on for a last great pay day at the IPL. Thinking of a list of people who went on just a tad too long.

Robbie Fowler
Peter Shilton
David Seaman
David Beckham
Ian Wright
David James
Michael Schumacher
Lance Armstrong
Benni McCarthy ho ho

You'll kick yourself that you didn't put this in your selection, but most obvious choice is surely Teddy Sheringham?!

Muhammed Ali... I remember watching one of his final fights against Larry Holmes and my dad saying how pitful it was to see him like that. If i remember rightly Larry Holmes seemed to not want to hit him in the end as he was beating up a hero of his

I think Larry Holmes was also in the ring a lot longer than he should of been, he was a great fighter and never really got the respect he deserved.

Yeah i agree he got battered by Tyson when he was way over the hill. He does deserve more respect but fought in a time with few decent opponents and so soon after Ali, Frazier, Foreman era which was probably the best ever for Heavyweight boxing

Kanu is just smart, probably has a legoland passport that still says he's 18

As long as he doesn't lose his pace he'll be fine
