Early 90's, forget the year or if it was against Palace or Wimbledon. Was at Selhurst Park on the old terrace in the away end. Drew 0-0.

It had pissed it down before the game and the gents were under the terrace, below ground level and the drains had blocked so you were standing in a few inches of piss down there (or it seemed it at the time, would have only been about 8 or 9 then!)

Spot on. I didn't have a ticket but a few of us went just for the atmosphere. As you said, gooners were everywhere. All the French driving past the bar we were drinking outside were beeping and cheering.
Absolutely quality day.
I only missed the Villareal away game on the run to the final. Real Madrid was special, all the time we'd been in the CL I'd wanted to play Real Madrid, that was my first europen trip. That really was a special night we outplayed them on the night and really could've had 2 or 3. I got to do a tour of the stadium the next day which was a great experience.

Rolled on to Turin, and depsite all the warnings about no booze being on sale that day and watch out for the italian fans we spend the day boozing and eating..not the greatest of games and the stadium wasn't all that but we got through it.

Paris was the pinnacle, because (for me personally) of the run we'd had and the trips I'd made I really thought it was meant to be. We drove over and was just a great trip. Got into some serious drinking from about midday and come kick off I was so ready for it..Sol scored and for 70 minutes the dream was on...despite what happened in the end I'll never forget a fantastic season for away trips..also my daughter was born that January ! (how the missus let me away I'll never know!)

I know mate, we were so close to what could've been one of the greatest nights in our history, I wasn't quite old enough to appreciate Anfield '89 at the time but have seen it 1000s of times since and that is probably the pinnacle for us. But had we pulled this off it would've been up there.

Vicarage Road 1981 I think. Think we lost, John Barnes was playing for them I think. Gooners in the Watford end and it kicked off during the game. My first experience of a Police escort after the game - back to Watford Junction.

For shear drama i dont think Anfield '89 will ever be eclipsed but trophy wise i think winning the European Cup would be up there if not above that night for the historical effect it would have on the club

Palace v Arsenal 1990 1-1 Andy Gray (I think) & Martin Hayes goals.

I remember flying out that morning and Dublin airport was just full with hundreds and hundreds of Gooners. And most of them didn't have tickets, they just "had to be there, in Paris".

I too had felt we were predestined to win it that year with that team and especially as it was the only major club honour DB10 hadn't won. What a game to go out on that would have been for him!

And I had a ticket for it which was just unbelievable. We were so close too, but when they equalised I knew we were fucked and it was probably the worst feeling I've ever experienced as a Gooner. Devestating.

I remember my dad had texted me two simple but wonderful words just before kick off; "Good luck". He knew what it meant to me. It still haunts me that game, but the funeral wake-like piss up afterwards was legendary. 8)

Was either QPR or Watford, around 87 or 88 I was about 7 at the time. Both same season but cant remember which one was first, either way we lost both.

Didn’t get to go to another away game for another few years - QPR cup replay. Lost that one too.

First proper away game (without the old man) was Newcastle 99. Hadn’t planned to go but a mate was going up for an interview at Newcastle uni so last minute on the Friday night he was heading up there me & another mate decided to gatecrash his car & my cousin who lives in Geordieland got us tickets for the home end & let us crash at his. We were gonna head back straight after the game on the Saturday night cos 2 of us had work on Sunday but it wasn’t until we got up there we realised the game was actually on the Sunday. Mate whose car we’d gone up in (& who was never going to the game) couldn’t wait till Sunday night to head back & we missed the last train back by the end of the match so had to stay till Monday. Didn’t have enough money for the train all the way back cos we’d spent it all getting pissed the night before so we got on without tickets & hid in the bathroom (not in a George Michael sense ) when the ticket inspector came round, then got off at York cos we could afford tickets from there. But then the next train took about 3 hours to arrive & we hadn’t thought about needing money for a travel card at Kings Cross. Got a family/child travel card cos it was all we had enough for but got caught & fined going through the barriers at the other end. Got suspended from work for a no-show on the Sunday. And to make it worse the reason we had no money left for train tickets was cos the bastards hadn’t paid us on time that month. All in all that game cost a fuckload more than I thought it would. Still, at least we didn’t lose that time. :barscarf: Drew 1-1 after being 1-0 up most of the game. :(

Luckily for Arsenal I think I’ve only ever seen us away 7 times, ever.   Two draws, four defeats and one win. And the win was at Farnborough. I can say I’ve seen Fanny Jeffers score though. Twice! Not many can say that.

So hang on, your one away win was away to Farnborough, which was played at Highbury! That's quality!

We travel from Farnborough for games, so that one was a right giggle as we were in the North Bank and a load of my mates were in the away end that day, part of the 4,000 odd that haven't watched Farnborough since, odd that! Cracking piss up though

That's nothing mate, I'll tell you about Jonah !

My cousin has come with me to the below games:

Man City 3-0 Arsenal (just after Gallas was stripped of the captaincy)
Man Utd 1-0 Arsenal (Semi-Final CL)
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal (FA Cup Semi Final)
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal (3 seasons ago I think when Bac put us 1 up)
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal (Last weekend)

Oh and for good measure, I gave him and my uncle tickets to the 2nd leg of the carling cup semi..

No more tickets for him ! :banghead: :banghead:
