First Arsenal Away Game?

We travel from Farnborough for games, so that one was a right giggle as we were in the North Bank and a load of my mates were in the away end that day, part of the 4,000 odd that haven't watched Farnborough since, odd that! Cracking piss up though
Hence the  ...

I've missed bible studies recently but I'm guessing Jonah's not a compliment, right? :? :(
That's nothing mate, I'll tell you about Jonah !

My cousin has come with me to the below games:

Man City 3-0 Arsenal (just after Gallas was stripped of the captaincy)
Man Utd 1-0 Arsenal (Semi-Final CL)
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal (FA Cup Semi Final)
Chelsea 2-1 Arsenal (3 seasons ago I think when Bac put us 1 up)
Chelsea 2-0 Arsenal (Last weekend)

Oh and for good measure, I gave him and my uncle tickets to the 2nd leg of the carling cup semi..

No more tickets for him ! :banghead: :banghead:
They're all very "losable" games at least. I've always wanted to experience a European away game but I really dont think I should! For all our sakes!

Chelsea away in 99, Kanu hattrick. Dad's mate had got us Arsenal end tickets and is still the first thing I can viscerally remember at age 3 and a half. Hooked since then...

After that I've been going to the game at Fulham since 05, been quite a few aways since. Actually I went to Sunderland in 03 in the home end though.

Didn’t get to go to another away game for another few years - QPR cup replay. Lost that one too.

First proper away game (without the old man) was Newcastle 99. Hadn’t planned to go but a mate was going up for an interview at Newcastle uni so last minute on the Friday night he was heading up there me & another mate decided to gatecrash his car & my cousin who lives in Geordieland got us tickets for the home end & let us crash at his. We were gonna head back straight after the game on the Saturday night cos 2 of us had work on Sunday but it wasn’t until we got up there we realised the game was actually on the Sunday. Mate whose car we’d gone up in (& who was never going to the game) couldn’t wait till Sunday night to head back & we missed the last train back by the end of the match so had to stay till Monday. Didn’t have enough money for the train all the way back cos we’d spent it all getting pissed the night before so we got on without tickets & hid in the bathroom (not in a George Michael sense ) when the ticket inspector came round, then got off at York cos we could afford tickets from there. But then the next train took about 3 hours to arrive & we hadn’t thought about needing money for a travel card at Kings Cross. Got a family/child travel card cos it was all we had enough for but got caught & fined going through the barriers at the other end. Got suspended from work for a no-show on the Sunday. And to make it worse the reason we had no money left for train tickets was cos the bastards hadn’t paid us on time that month. All in all that game cost a fuckload more than I thought it would. Still, at least we didn’t lose that time. :barscarf: Drew 1-1 after being 1-0 up most of the game. :(

Luckily for Arsenal I think I’ve only ever seen us away 7 times, ever.   Two draws, four defeats and one win. And the win was at Farnborough. I can say I’ve seen Fanny Jeffers score though. Twice! Not many can say that.
Is that the Farnborough game that was played at Highbury in 02/03, which was technically Farnborough's home game?
Does that count as an away game?

Sorry just read that someone almost said the exact same thing I did.

Er, yeah that was meant to be the point. That the one away game I’ve seen us win was played at home.

I see sarcasm travels as succesfully over the internet as Arsenal do whenever me and Al's cousin are following them.

And fuck yeah I'm counting it as an away game from now on! Might even add the Barnet pre-seasons too & I'll be close to double-figures. :barscarf: Although I'm pretty sure we even drew one of those 0-0! :(

Away days

Post by Jeremy »

I ve been to 5 away games ever and the first wasn't all that......

1989/90(?) QPR was my first away game. Can't remember the score or anything much but I do remember taking an Aussie bird, we paid on the gate and Rocky Rocastle was playing. I was about 16.

2002 Didn't go to another away game for ages ...til Leeds where we were in the home end (sat on our hands of course!) and Robbie Fowler scored in front of us. Twat. 1-1.

2003 OT for FA Cup v Sheffield game where Seaman did THAT save.1-0.

2009/10 Birmingham this time with all the Gooners was amazing...until the very end of course. But the atmosphere was a revelation especially after being disappointed with the relative quietness of the Emirates after Highbury. 1-1.

2010/11 Chelsea last week.....great atmosphere and performance but shite result. Their fans were so quiet it was embarrassing. Shit club no history ! 2-0 :banghead:

Well fuck me dead mate, that was my first away game too 9th Dec 1972 if you want to be precise  Do you remember our mob turning up at the shithole? I was queueing outside the Paxton Rd and you could hear them singing as they were coming down t*******m high road for what seemed like ages and when they turned the corner into Paxton Rd they were a pretty fearome sight  Led by a tall skinny black guy, always wore a tonic suit jacket and a plain red woollen hat, never knew his name tho. Inside there were Arsenal everywhere, took the Shelf, Park Lane and Paxton, we basically took the piss there. I was 14 at the time in the Paxton, if you get the game up on youtube I'm in that mob that surge forward when we score the two goals in the 2nd half at that end. Watched it quite a few times but never spotted meself

Mother fucker, are you me? :?

I was at those QPR games around the same age.

I'm going to a hypnotist to see if there are any repressed memories stored deep in the back of my psyche about the twin I used to have who was re-homed due to inappropriate sibling affection.

My first away match was at Norwich in around 1986 /87 ? Can't remember too much about it for some reason - uneventful ? 0-0 ?

My first "proper" away match, ie outside London or travelling by car, was at Everton in the Littlewods Cup semi final in 1988, winning 1-0 thanks to a Perry Groves goal, loved it up in the wooden seats, banging your feet to make a huge racket, Gooners in grest form and set us up nicely for the home leg, which we won 3-1 (this was a time when Everton were good too)

Goodison remains a favourite of mine, probably for this reason.

From then on I did aways regularly for 5/6 years- happily coinciding with the 89 and 91 title wins, 93 cups and the 1994 cup winners cup too :barscarf: Oh Happy days.

Kanu's hat-trick against Chelsea was absolutely incredible, especially the third goal, it's up there in my favourite all time AFC moments :barscarf:
