Finally!!! An Englishman comes out and tells the truth..

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

This isn't a point about clubs, its about cleaning up the English game.

This club also existed at a time when we fielded a team of unprofessional soldiers to literally fight and maim over a pigs bladder. Whats your point?

I agree with Murphy's comments, but note how they only come after players from Fulham (who he just so happens to play for) and Newcastle have suffered.

Bet if the same had happened to two of Arsenal's foreigners in the past month you wouldn't have heard a peep out of him.

I entrust that the media, Pulis, Allardyce and Redknapp will all accuse him of playing mind games with the referee ahead of their match with Spuds next weekend.

Henry Norris reminds Radford that we never dished it out. Bould, Adams, Viera and Keown knew how to tackle properly. They went in hard but won the ball, and never broke players legs.

Shawcross and co are blindly immitating the tough tackling of Viera but are nowhere near as good in terms of winning the ball. There is a difference between going in hard and going in two legged, studs raised. Karl Henry needs to learn from TA6 how to execute a proper tackle 8)

thats not totally true Mr Norris, Bouldy broke David Hurst' leg twice with tackles from behind. They werent Taylor Eduardo type challenges but they were very hard tackles and Sheffield Wednesday fans dislike Bould to this day over those challenges

a quote off of a Wednesday fan site
David Hirst

Being a powerhouse of a forward, Hirst’s attributes terrified defenders and in the end it seemed to come down to be a contest to see which defender could injure him the worse - Steve Bould arguably holding that accolade after a vicious assault on Hirsty during a game at Highbury in 1992 which left David with a broken ankle. He still scored in the game and managed 16 goals in 33, including an FA Cup final equaliser, but that was the beginning of the problems.

Just like in Goonersid's thread, why all of a sudden the outcry on bad tackles?...easy a English player was a victim and then a possible media favoured club has a player scythed down.Murphy's right in what he says about the way clogging clubs psyche up there cavemen and so there revert to dirty play.

It's disgusting really that what has happened to our players, not just the broken legs but ligaments etc,and when wenger rightly complains it's just put down as ''whinging'' by the media BUT after the recent incidents all hell breaks loose!!!!!!Just shows the discrimination the hierarchy of football have !

radford sees no reason why mr doodle dandy is being so rude. maybe he would like to you tube a certain game between Arsenal and Newcastle where both winterburn and dixon go through the back of ginola with shocking challenges.

people must not lose sight that Arsenal dished it out as well and at times only by the grace of the man upstairs did we not inflict serios injury.

radford has seen a lot of Arsenal games and it is only AW's teams from 2005 that have not contained players who can hold their own. maybe its because Aw cannot buy that type of player? after all he could have signed essien could he not? etc

BT would like to suggest it was a different game then, with different pitches (that didnt hold the leg static for so long), different boots (likewise) and not played at nearly as fast a pace. The speed at which the game is now played means the impact is that much more when it does hit. It also means quick technical players like Eduardo suddenly change course by which time oafish defenders like Taylor are far too late. And thats before we even get started on the different body-mass of todays players.

I'm not sure I ever saw an Arsenal defender run half the pitch to take out a player at the half way line in the tenth minute a la Karl Henry again and again. Nor did they have nothing else to offer but brutish force - they were all great players too.
