I imagine it was put forward by some Islington citizens group or another, no one else in the world can moan about Arsenal like that lot can.
The endless drivel you see written by them in the letter page in the Islington Gazette beggars belief.
From buses being crowded on matchdays, to street drinking.

Don't normally do cans at games but the one time I did I and some mates got pulled up on it.
TBH I totally forgot about the rule and was right in front of two officers by the round about.
We walked on as it was early but on our return saw the signs dotted along the streets around the ground. What angered me was how often I see people drink on the concourse OUTSIDE the ground.
Answer to this I found is once your outside the armory and off the streets your on Arsenal property and no longer in the streets of Islington.
I wish the Officers would have asked if we could keeping walking to the ground off the street which was 2 metres from where we were!

Love it..... yeah i had the same problem at the West Ham game. Had half a can of fosters left walking past Arsenal tube towards the ground when a copper said "you will have to dispose of the can pal" I was like since when..... I told him i only had half a can left and he said ok then.... turned the corner when another copper said " you will have to get rid of that can now sir"... so i said yes i just spoke to the other officer 1 minute ago and told him i only had half a can left and will bin it in a couple of minutes. So now the copper infront of me was like "i'm sorry sir but i can't let you carry on walking with an alcoholic drink"... so now i'm telling him that there is a bin by the jerk chicken stool and i would have finished the can by then can you not just let me walk to that as i've now only got a quarter of a can left.... he was having none of it so like yourself rushed the remainder of the can which did not go down to well before a portion of chicken and rice
1.) The 2nd officer, when he said that to you, didnt you want to empty the can on his head?
2.) Is that jerk chicken stall nice?
Q1, the idea had crossed my mind but i was starving and didnt want to A, miss the game and B, not get any food
Q2, very nice i feel i am becomming an adopted Jamaican
all those burgers are made from eye holes, ear holes and arseholes..... had a quarter pounder from the van by the chinese chippy about 2 years ago and still felt it in my gut a week laterkingjayson1 wrote:I meant where have you been as in the forum, not your route.SWLGooner wrote:Seeing as I always go from Finsbury Park to Arsenal, via the Mini-Donuts stall, the Curry in a Hurry tent, and Fat Harry's hot dog stall, not quite on my route...kingjayson1 wrote:Where you been? I stopped going to the mini donut stall, they taste of lemon and that woman needs to crack a smile. The new donut stall looks tempting but haven't tried it yet. The curry stall is nice, often stop there on the way back. Not too sure about all the burger vans, I am not sure they are 100% beef

McDonalds @ Waterloo, Jerk Chicken outside the ground or Highbury Special Chicken.kingjayson1 wrote:Thats why I steer clear.CPHANMER wrote:all those burgers are made from eye holes, ear holes and arseholes..... had a quarter pounder from the van by the chinese chippy about 2 years ago and still felt it in my gut a week laterkingjayson1 wrote:I meant where have you been as in the forum, not your route.SWLGooner wrote:Seeing as I always go from Finsbury Park to Arsenal, via the Mini-Donuts stall, the Curry in a Hurry tent, and Fat Harry's hot dog stall, not quite on my route...kingjayson1 wrote: Where you been? Firstly the OB want to abuse their powers (again) why ? because they can then arrest anyone who doesnt comply, thus pushing up the arrest quota for Islington without haveing to do any Police work.
It also justifys the massive police overprescence at Home games that we are now used too.
Secondly Arsenal will support this as they want people to drink the watered down expensive piss that they sell in the ground .
Lastly dont blame Islington residents for this cos I'm one and spoke out loud and clear to my ward council workers on this one as did many others.
People wander round Holloway road smacked, cracked or purple tinned off their chumps 24/7 with impunity during the rest of the week ,but when the footballs on it becomes over regulated.

I had a similar situation at the Bolton game when coming out of the co-op by the roundabout. Wasnt aware of the new rule and the police officer actually seemed quite guilty as i had just opened my can. Luckily he was pretty decent and didnt make me down it but said as long as I finished it by the bin where we were both standing and didnt walk on with it then he would turn a blind eye. Agree its a ridiculous rule as on the nicer match days I'd rather stand outside than queing inside one of the pubs/bars. Hopefully as the season goes on they will become more leniant but I cant see it happening

As I said earlier once your off the street and outside the Arsenal* your on private property and therefore the rules don't apply.
*This even includes drinking outside the armory.
But don't wonder away from the ground back to the street. Thats were the police convienantly stand, right on the border, stopping people drinking heading towards the ground.
If you wait and pass them its then fine to drink.
