As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.
Well without getting into a whole "what's wrong with society" debate. Drinking in the streets around the ground is against the law, now I enjoy a drink as much as anybody, in fact I can assure you I enjoy a drink a lot more than most. But if someone can't make it from the pub to the stadium without a drink, then they have a fucking drink problem, or are simply an asshole.
Everyone thinks they can be the exception to the rule, and if the police allow this, then every c**t will be making their way to the ground with a drink in their hand, then it will be "well it's ok for me to take a piss in this doorway" etc etc etc.
I think that's way off the mark mate TBH. It's not about "making it from the pub to the stadium" without a beer at all. Pubs are ofter packed, not chaep and served in shit plastic glasses, why pay 3 quid and upwards for it when you can get a can from the shop for a pound ? Also especially in the summer there's nothing wrong with getting a couple of cans and sitting outside. I think you're wrong on this one mate.
It's not me that makes the rules, and those are the rules. They are not made to be interoperated to suit ourselves. I am not saying the rules are just, simply that they are the ruleS and should be adhered to if you don't want hassle from the cops. Otherwise if you pick up a fine then you have no one to blame but yourself.
If you don't agree with them then I'm afraid you will need to write to your MP.
Just out of interest, what are your thoughts on the atmopshere in the stadium and the rules one should adhere to ? Like not swearing ? Standing Up ? Do you agree with those ?
The atmosphere in the stadium is poor we all know that, I can't see how allowing everyone to swear would improve that, as for standing up, it is an all seater stadium, so therefore I have to accept the no standing rule.
Do I agree with all seater stadia? No I don't, but that is what we have so we are stuck with that, and the rule and crap atmosohere that goes with it.
I do think making the comparison between the rules within a football stadium, and the Local byelaws on drinking in public places is totally out of context.

Think how many fans you see outside the turnstiles drinking? That's because the cops can't police the CDZ on private property.

I do like American football. We had a lovely american bloke on the coach trip with us yesterday. Had some good discussions with him.
I've no problems with rowdy crowd behaviour in the stadium but outside the ground its a place where people live and they are not all football fans so their rights must be respected.
Just because you've taunted me I will now write another letter to the council about crowd behaviour outside the ground

What that man said - a lot of people here are missing the point.
It is not, in a CDZ, illegal to drink in the street. It is only illegal in Alcohol Prohibited Areas (for example - lots of town centers, where they have signs up warning you that you will be fined if caught).
A CDZ is merely an area in which the police can confiscate your booze if you're being lairy, or if it looks like you're about to kick-off. Why this is necessary is beyond me (they can do people for 'drunk & disorderly' anyway, so the extra power seems uneccessary) but that is another argument.
The police therefore, should only confiscate cans off people that are misbehaving, or look like they might. By confiscating off everyone they are abusing their power and seriously stretching the "they look like they might cause trouble" part of the law.
If you are behaving yourself and not looking like you're about to cause any grief then the police have no right to confiscate your cans (not that arguing this will get you anywhere of course).

It's not of context. You said the rules of the street should be adhered to. I asked if you felt the rules in the stadium should be adhered to.
As Maevans has pointed out below the rules of a CDZ do not dictate that you cannot drink in a CDZ.

Al, I'm not disputing drinking in the CDZ, however I can't understand why someone can't manage to walk from the pub to the stadium, without the need for a drink, they either have a problem or are simply diaobeying the law ie "an asshole"
Nor indeed why someone won't use the CDZ but instead insist on drinking just outside it, no matter how close. It is the old "give them an inch and they will take a mile" That's why I agree with Zero tolerance being applied.
AS for the rule of the street, this is law and is enforced by the police, where as the rules of the stadium are enforced by stewards, and not all are necessarily the law of the land. So therefore the two are different animals altogether.

I won’t adhere to any rules if I can help it. Every match I drink beer on the way from Finsbury Park to the Grove. I will also have a drink on the train, and at my seat in the ground! I also stand every match!
I never cause any harm, nor do I get drunk and make noise when outside the ground. I have never really seen anyone make any noise or cause any harm. Its more a waste out of our tax funding the twat police that stop people drinking a harmless can of beer on the way to the ground.
