Best Arsenal Goal...? And Why?

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Has to be Michael "charging through the midfield, it's up for grabs now": Thomas at Anfield 1989. So many reasons - the sheer drama of the late goal, winning 2-0 at the (then) fortress Anfield and on a personal note the first time I'd ever seen Arsenal win the league title. Honorable mention also to Wiltords goal at OT to win the league, Thierry's hat-trick penalty against Wigan (how fitting was that?) and TA against Everton as well but for sheer emotion and the sort of total ecstacy that this sport can bring nothing can beat that 1989 moment. I don't think anything will top that with the possible exception of a Champions League winner.

For me, the best goal ive seen live has got to be Titi's against liverpool in 2003/04, he pretty much ran past the whole team of scousers and slotted past Dudek.

What a goal!

I really cannot seperate my favourite 2 goals -

DB10 v barcodes away was without doubt THE classiest goal I have ever seen but for sheer importance and dramatic finale and goose bumps factor(still) you cannot match mickey thomas's goal v scousers at anfield may 89. Ending the 18 year famine for league success like that will live with me for ever.

My 3rd favourite goal was the ian wright goal v toffee's when he flicked the ball over the defender twice before sending a beautiful lob over southall who was no mean keeper in his day.

Must also agree with most of IHH's statement regarding the best player ever to play for the club and his feelings on henry cos far too many fans look at goals scored when deciding the best player ever. Have said it before and will say it again that for world class skill & vision plus contribution to the club we have not had better than chippy brady and DB10 8)

Best Arsenal goal ever has to be Miickey Thomas at Anfield because in the whole history of football has never been more dramatic goal.

Charlie George in the 71 cup final anyone?
Or am i showing my age again.
For those of you too young to know the context. We had just won the league at Shite Hart Lane in the final league game of the season, great in itself but if we won the double we would take away the biggest stick the scum beat us with (only team to win the double). The double has been done so many times since, it is impossible to know how big a deal it was at the time. it was considered virtually impossible!

this cup final was one of the tensest ever. 0-0 at ft. Scousers go 1-0 up in et. Everyone was totally knackered after a really hard season and it looked like it was slipping away. Then Eddie Kelly scored (or was it george Graham :?:  ) Charlie could hardly stand up when he hit the scorcher that was one of the most orgasmic moments of my life. At that time the Cup Final was the only game shown live on TV!

This link shows the goal.

This link is Charlie's important goals and includes the line from Brain Moore.

"Charlie George, who can hit them" Sound familiar?

Sorry to be an old fart but this was an incredible moment for those of us around at the time.

My last post was more about a crucial goal (although it was good as well) as seems to be the case with most replies on here.

I am really struggling with most skillful goals. 8) When we have had players like Liam Brady, Ian Wright, Graham Rix, DB10 and TH14 to name only a few but I think my number one has to be DB10 against the barcodes. Even now when I watch it I can't believe he even tried it let alone succeeded! Fav TH14 goals,THE goal against the scousers in 2004. I was about 3 feet from him during that one   . The slalom v the spuds. The volley over his shoulder v manure and the Charlton backheel.
DB10s hattrick v Leicester was v special. and on and on ........

ooh to be, ooh to be a gooner. :) :D  8)

A lot of obvious candidates already chosen and some truely great memories, so when choosing the best Arsenal goal I've taken into account the result, the performance, the significance and the effect it had on me personally. This has led me to declare that Kevin Campbell's goal versus PSG, semi final of Cup Winners Cup 1994 as a less obvious choice really stands out for me. I was at the match, about 15 years old at the time, I remember it being really early on, then backs to the wall for virtually the rest of the match. When the final whistle went the joy and relief, then going into school the next day and crowing for weeks, "there's only one team in Europe!" Super Kev will always have a special place in my heart for that one goal alone.

bergkamp against newc is the best....simply because no one else would have even though to do that and no one else could have executed it.

pure class.

Ive seen some great goals including a Tony Woodcock volley against WBA I think in the 80's RVP's against Charlton away and Blackburn at home (what an angle) Dennis , well take your pick Barnsley. Sunderland , Leicester . Newcastle to name a few. TH14 runs against Spurs , Leeds and Liverpool and finishes against Blackburn away and Man Utd at home. Wrighty against Everton and Notts Forest and the chip at Elland Road over John Lukic ! I even saw Vladimir Petrovic score a goal ! Micky T charging through the midfield with me screaming at the telly to SHOOT as I thought he was going to get tackled or fuck it up! To break it down to 1 goall would be hard so Im going to do a Trevor Brooking and sit on the fence!
