Braga away
Having tried to defend the guy in the past, I have to say that "Super Nic" produced one of the least effective displays of centre forward play I have seen in an Arsenal shirt (distant memories of Lee Chapman came flooding back).
Having talked the talk superbly for a fortnight or so, you would imagine that when presented with the chance to impose himself in a highly important game, he might have set about the task with the passion of an uncaged tiger. Instead, he was knocked and shoved off the ball with the minimum of fuss and when the wide players eventually got free of their markers.....where was he ? Did he take up a single goalscoring position in the entire match.
For a guy with a lot to prove, I can only say he slipped further behind Chamakh tonight, and please no bollocks about needing to "get fit" when the player himself claims to never have been in better physical shape.
As for the rest of it - loads of possession, not enough end product, and two sucker punches (the first showing our great international CB's lack of pace again). Doesn't seem like the right mood to start another anti-GIC thread, but we're sleepwalking from one mistake to another.
On the plus - Jack Wilshere - utterly superb from start to finish

A ny manager that makes 7 changes for a vital champions league match has to be questioned. There is absolutely no logic in what he did tonite.
Play your strongest team for the first half and make changes once its in the bag.
Great decision to rest RVP. We obviously didn't need him such was the number of attempts on target tonite!!!!
I really think a change at the top is needed now. Wenger is too stubborn and stuck in his ways which clearly are not working.

I didn't think Wilshere had that good a game tbh. Bendtner was shit tho, Chamakh is miles, miles better than himSteveO 35 wrote:Having tried to defend the guy in the past, I have to say that "Super Nic" produced one of the least effective displays of centre forward play I have seen in an Arsenal shirt (distant memories of Lee Chapman came flooding back).

This is by far the worst Arsenal defence I have seen!Louder wrote:Don't lose faith in our manager PHP. He is more than capable of adding what's needed to this squad. I've always supported Wenger in the past, but I've now come round to the view that he should bow out while he still has some dignity.
We will never win another major trophy under Wenger because he's either unwilling or unable to sort out our defensive frailties

He's far from a complete forward. Not yet anyway. He can't hold up the ball, isn't that good in the air despite his height, not fast enough. Not good enough to be a lone forward.
I think his best form was when he played as a winger last season. He added strength in comparison to the little "playmakers" we usually put up there, he showed good link up play, and he even gave us good defensive cover by tracking back effectively. Miles better than Rosicky, Vela, and even Arshavin of recent times.
I think I am one of the most Pro Wenger writers in here, but his tactical management, player management, and in-game changes during the last few weeks have reached a new low.
I agree. He was no better than Rosicky, Bendtner or Fabregas. All shit.Wilshere was fucking pony tonight!
Oh my god, are people really prepared to have their sanity questioned in order to defend a 'fans favourite' at any cost?

As someone who was there I was wondering have the fans started turning on Wenger yet? I have always defended him but since the shambles of the weekend and now this I am in the camp that he needs to go if we're going to progress, I think the only way the board would act or Wenger would change his ways is through increased supporter pressure.Dan_85 wrote:only theo & jack came over, the other cowards legged it. they still got both barrels from me. fuck. wish wenger woulda come over, im off to find the team bus!worthing_gooner wrote:I hope the away gooners didnt clap any of the players. That's if they even bothered going over to show their appreciation.

Charlie said that possession counts for nothing .
He said Denilson could have 200 passes of the ball and creat nothing and another player have 20 and produce match turning moments. He said he would far rather have the man with 20 and he is spot on.
He also said that the defence do not appear to know what to do or who to trust when the ball is in our area. Again so true.
Quite simply we are a shambles at the moment.
Mark my words Villa will win comfortably on Sat.

Pretty much the same as what most people are saying on here, which you don't usually hear in the media (or outside of the club's fanbase). I'm glad that the questioning of Wenger's methods is now receiving a wider audience.LDB wrote:What did he say?Bring Back Pires wrote:Glad to hear Charlie Nicholas telling it as it is on SSN.
He also slated Denilson big time, which was a plus.

If he cant see that denilson is not good enough to play denfensive midfield after 5 years, or that bendtner is not good enough to lead the line then im sorry but enogh is enough.
Not taking our most creative attacking midfielder and our best striker and resting our only defensive midfielder for a must win game is a disgrace.

Other thoughts to come in a return of CanadianGunners, but on the Wilshere comments...
I think he worked hard, but his play wasn't good. However, as of right now I'm more interested in seeing the latter; I'm sick of our lazy players not getting stuck in. JW19 was trying to make a difference all game, and you could see how much he was frustrating himself when he kept making mistakes - when you try that hard though, you end up overthinking and making bad plays, which makes you try harder... a bad cycle that makes for a poor game of football.
So let's not credit Jack for working hard, and let him have one bad game. After all, the fact that we're relying on an 18 year old for inspiration in a team of 100+ game-experience players really says something about the likes of some of our guys tonight.
Summary:
Cesc: he's either lazy, or was worried about his hamstring and shouldn't have played. Either way, shouldn't have been on the pitch that long, and as a fitting result he pulled out with a injury/precaution that probably will see him miss a couple weeks.
Wenger: tactics wouldn't have done much against a stubborn 8+ man defense from Braga, I think his players were just sloppy
Bendtner: way to go, really showing your fucking value; you got a lot of balls to talk so much about your greatness when that's what you bring to the team. Check your ego or ship out.
