To be fair, Qatar's bid was impressive.

FIFA has reminded us what a good, logical organization they are.

Am I the only one who thinks there isn't going to be any video replays in 2022, when the world cup will be at the great football nation of Qatar..? :banghead:

No video replays? Qatar is a mega rich country, and will only get richer by 2022. And you think they can't afford video replays? Ignorance is bliss I guess.

But what experience do they have at a footballing level? A huge ask staging it without a structure already in existence, and on top of it the mere task of broadcasting it to the world.

TBH if I'd watched a presentation by an accident of birth, an accidental prime minister and a total knob, I'd have voted for anyone else.

With the bid costing £368 million and realistically having no chance of getting it is it worth just sending a fax stating "yes we want to hold the World Cup". If that dont work only 20 pence lost!! :D

Im just looking forward to Russian hooligans embarrassing fifa and Qatar getting beaten 30-0 all their 3 group games :banghead:

Fucking stupid decision, how the fuck did we let fifa turn into that. We've got a fucking swiss at the head who is the biggest fucking *word censored* ever and some guy from the Caribbean who has influence over 3 votes :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I don't think its entirely fair to hold the bbc responsible for us not winning but humiliating the guys who we needed to vote for us certainly wouldn't have helped.

Fuck it, Qatar, what the fuck. Its gonna be the shittest world cup ever. Make the most of Brazil 2014.

Seriously Qatar?????

What the fuck????

You should dress modestly when in public, including whilst driving. Women should cover their shoulders and avoid wearing short skirts. You should behave courteously at all times. Any intimacy in public between men and women (including between teenagers) can lead to arrest. Homosexual behaviour is illegal in Qatar. :unionjack: :gayflag:

I think we need to send thousands of our teens out there for the world cup, see how they handle that.

You raise some very valid points that are going to be rather hard to reconcile. I commend FIFA for its intent reaching out to all cutures but there is ineviatbly going to friction - unintended certainly but friction all the same as a result. I am guessing they will try to compromise - let the hot chicks dress like hot chick inside the stadium but put their clothes on before and after at all times, but at some point someone will screw that up and we'll have an incident - probably several incidents.

The problem is whatever we think of it that is how the Qataris - is that the correct term - and others in the region choose to live at this point and thus it is just as offensive to force our culture upon them as it is for them to force theirs upon us so no one will win here (some might suggest that applies elsewhere in our world too  ).

Also your idea about the teenagers recalls how Martin Luther King used the schoolchildren of Birmingham to force America to begin to face the problems of racist brutailty in the South. The sight of schoolchildren being beaten by riot police and attacked by police dogs and having high-powered fire hoses turned on them was the most effective weapon in galvanizing sentiment for real change in the national debate about civil rights to that point.

Mate! You and I have been on the same page most of the time so I ain't going to counter you over here. However, let me assure you that though your concerns are valid, they will not materialise.

Qatar is one of the most liberal countries in the Middle East along with Bahrain. They will be some of the most wonderful stadiums ever seen. A lot of English and American folks live in Doha without any issues and are able to express themselves in public. The clothing restrictions you talk about might be true for most middle east countries but not Qatar. They strongly believe in the 'live and let live' principle (don't push because having sex on the beach will have you arrested which will also happen in the UK). The western way of life is pretty much acceptable over there. What you are doing is generalising rather than seeing Qatar as a specific country.
