There is a signing that wouldn't surprise me at all and this guy is very much a household name and a winner. With Vela already halfway out of the door and Chamakh feeling the effects of a lonely Autumn I think a loan signing might come in to supplement the attack. The man in question has not missed a home game at Arsenal for the past 6 weeks. His name:

Thierry Henry

It's not as far-fetched as it sounds as he will surely train with the boys ahead of the new MLS season, so I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if he was brought in on a short-term loan. I know he isn't what he was, and his final months were pretty awful, even before he got injured. But what a boost to the fans and the Club as a whole if he was to be part of the squad for a couple of months.

That's a terrific point, but the overpaying our the players you refer to is balanced by the underpaying pf the top players in quality experience and achivement at Arsenal, otherwise our wage bill would in fact rival Chelsea's or Man City's.


How else do you explain the fact that even only City and Chelsea have clearly larger total wage bills than ours and and United my now have one only because of the recent deal Wayne Rooney signed that in the list of the 50 highest paid players in Europe there are three United players and one Arsenal Player and on the previous season's list there were seven United players and only one Arsenal player?

As I say the problem is both overpaying underperformers and underpaying proven performers. But underpaying the top players serves to reduce transfer spending by ruling out of contention to sign to really good players available before even putting a bid with their clubs. But it looks like we paying our top players top money based on the totals bills compared to other top clubs with the exception of Man City and Chelsea.

And don't forget that unlike other top clubs our wage bill also includes non-playing staff wages as has been reported many times on numerous sources.

he was on skysports before the game against Chelsea and he said he couldn't cope anymore with the pace of the game in England, or something like that.

But I'd love to see him back at Arsenal, whatever the job.

Appreciate you're passing on 'hearsay' as such Frank but I just don't believe he'll sign anyone half decent. The fact that we've conceded so many goals from set pieces tells us we need a 6ft 4 + CB who can command the box - it's not rocket science but to sign another CB it means Wenger will be admitting that Kos and Squillaci are not good enough and the one thing you can be sure of with Wenger is that he will NEVER ever admit he has got it wrong, it doesn't happen.

Kos hardly wins a single challenge in the air - what the hell did Wenger see in him or Squillaci other than 'value'? The mind boggles.

We won't sign any household name who is a leader. It's January. All top players are cup tied be it Champions League / FA Cup / League Cup / whatever. That OP is a load of 5hite.

What makes you think Arsene is going to go against all his principals now, after 14 years at Arsenal? He won't!

I'll be amazed if he does but I would lay decent money we'll be sat here in a months time with the same squad, or at best one less, missing the Spaniard keeper.

I mentioned that I know a close friend of Pat Rice. That's how I understand that he is stepping down to be replaced by Gilles Grimandi at the end of the season.

Anyway, that friend saw Pat over the festive break and was told the following:

- Wenger will be signing a 'leader on the pitch' in January.
- The 2/3 transfer targets are household names, established and 'winners'.
- Potential big money transfer fee (£15m+)
- Vela out on loan, Ramsay back from Forest, Alumina to be sold to a Spanish club after being told he has no future at the Club.
- The Board have told Wenger "that the team need to start matching the success of the Club off the pitch".
