everybody is entitled to their opinion that's what forums like this is about, perhaps living where you do you will not know the pain that people inside that stadium were feeling, some people cope differently with it, for many the pain of watching the team i love destroyed by the enemy and the joy on the faces of the lowest form of pond life that frequents that shit hole was too much to take if i did not give a shit it would have been easy to stay, don't tell me I'm selfish or i would stick with the team through thick and thin i have been watching arsenal since 1963 and let me tell you there's been some pretty thin times since then, i love AFC i always will but for the first time in over 20 years i could not take any more and left early, if you cant understand that perhaps you have never cared enough about anything to feel the pain

I don't think that anyone who wasn't there has a right to criticise those who were for leaving early. Bear in mind that the sort of people with enough credits to get to Spurs are those that follow Arsenal all over Europe, so please don't claim that they are not real fans.

I had 0 cedits & got to go, i don't go away often & it was my first time at the Lane

I stayed till the end simple as, i'm a true supporter & i know this
No one has to go all around the world to see Arsenal to be the best fan you just back them up now & again & pour more money into the pockets of the Arsenal simple as

I don't blame the fans around me on block 47 at the back leaveing early it's a crime seeing something like that happening esp against your rivals who hadn't won for 9 years previous

People talking about that the fans that left early is just kicking things off & i've seen it happen on a couple of sites already (well a couple of days ago

)

fascinating discussion! At least I now understand why some fans left and I'm now not sure what I would have done if I'd been there. I kept watching on TV and if I had been there I think I'd have stayed - never left a game early - not even Swindon - but then again 5-1 at SHL...

do you ever slate other teams' fans for leaving? you know ... "we can see you sneaking out"

how do you think you can ever again sing that without being a hippocrite?

also, what effect do you think that had on the players to see so many fans leaving after an hour?

sorry but you let the side down. Maybe not as much as the players et.al but you did nonetheless.

of course it hurt, but if "courage is not the absence of fear, rather it is action in the face of fear" then support is staying, taking the pain, supporting the players, showing pride in the face of humiliation, not just singing when we are winning and basking in the reflected glory.

I was never doubting your commitment to the club my fellow gooner. If we met at a pub and you told me you've been following the team since the 60's I'd buy you a beer.

We all had a great laugh when we saw the Scum fans leaving the Lane when we played there earlier this season. What would've hurt more than watching my team lose to the filthy scum would be to give those same scum the joy of watching me leave 45 minutes before the game ended. Hopefully that puts things into perspective. So I would've stayed with pride and looked every scumbucket square in the eye and say: see you next season you bleedin' wankers.

By the way, you don't have to be in London to feel the pain. Geography has nothing to do with it so you can throw that theory out the window.

Interesting debate. I can see why some fans leave early, wish they didn't but accept that's life for many of our current fans especially at home games. Perhaps I don't hate Spurs enough because I didn't find it too difficult to stay to the end and wait to applaud the three players who came over to acknowledge the travelling Gooners. For me it was just one of those "I was there nights". If being a football fan was just about watching you team win life would be very dull.

me and my mate were considering to leave at 4-0 as the hurt was too much but then we thought what a silly thought and stayed to the end as a lot of people had gone and you could see the spurs fans were loving the fact most of our support had gone so we thought it was our duty to stay and show them our support aint soft.

The other reason we stayed was to show the players they got a good support even at bad times. You could see Fab and Willy really looking down at the end of the game and Fab was praying for our forgiveness when he came over to our end so i think it was important for our players to see that us fans stick with them through thick and thin.

It makes you feel proud as a supporter to be there to the end no matter what.

Well the team didnt even make an effort ,why the fuck should I ?

I walked out at 4-0 and im not ashamed in the slightest,ive only done it twice b4 in 40 years the others bieng OT when we lost to mufc 6-1 and chelsea at home when we lost 5-0 in lhe league cup.

I did it because it meant i could get back to Highbury and drown my sorrows rather than be held back and escorted to Tottenham Hale .

The teams performance was gutless and frankly I deserved more than that effort !
