TOO TRUE, AND PEOPLE SHOULDN'T FORGET IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE RVP THAT FILLED IT. AS IT WORKED OUT ADE HAS STEPPED INTO HENRY'S GOAL-SCORING SHOES AND SO FAR IS DOING A FANTASTIC JOB.
Wayno wrote: ...For me it was not just the number of goals that Henry scored, it was the manner in which he scored them..
THERE IS NOT ONE TYPE OF GOAL THAT HENRY SCORED FOR US THAT HASN'T BEEN REPLICATED BY ADE IN SOME WAY. INDEED, I WOULD SUGGEST THAT WITH HIS HEADING PROWESS, ADE HAS AN EVEN WIDER RANGE OF GOAL IN HIS ARMOURY.
Wayno wrote:...Ade could score 200+ yet still be viewed as crap in comparison with TH14..
BUT WHY? HENRY SCORED MORE GOALS THAN WRIGHTY AND BERGKAMP BUT I STILL CONSIDER THE TWO OF THEM TO HAVE BEEN BETTER THAN HIM.
Wayno wrote:..Its not that I don't like Ade, but he isn't TH14 and thats what I want, a true replacement with bags of skill, pace, class and the ability to make me think, "how the fcuk did he just do that?"
Sorry Ade right place wrong time
IF SOME OF THE GOALS ADEBAYOR HAS ALREADY SCORED HASN'T PROVEN TO YOU THAT HE CAN DO ALL THE ABOVE, THEN I'M AFRAID YOU'RE GONNA BE KEPT WAITING A VERY LONG TIME FOR A 'TRUE REPLACEMENT' FOR HENRY!! INDEED, I DOUBT THERE EVER WILL BE ONE BECAUSE REGARDLESS OF WHAT THE PLAYER DOES, HE WILL NEVER BE CONSIDERED AS GOOD AS HENRY IN SOME PEOPLES EYES.
There are some valid complaints about Ade brought up in this thread
1) His lack of big game goals however I think it should be remembered that he was very dangerous in our 4-1 defeat to Liverpool and had a goal ruled out wrongly against Chelsea so it isn't as bad as first appears. Could do better
2) His erratic passing is something he could work on but he is young and hopefully he can iron out that problem given time.
I don't see why people expect a replacement for Henry, he was a rare talent and we should be grateful for what he has done. Ade is Ade, Dudu is Dudu, Van Persie is Van Persie, they are not so much filling the gap as emerging as themselves.
I was one of the main doutbters about Ade's ability to do the necessary!
At the moment though you cannoy knock the guy! He is on fire and banging them in week after week.
I still have doubts over the attitude though and I have a nagging feeling that he won't be with us too many seasons. After he was flirted with by Sir Red Nosed Chunt in the summer I just get the impression he feels he has made it already!
Whats the odds of in the summer say Juventus, Milan or Barca (as per fucking usual) and Ade saying how it has been his dream to play for blah blah blah? Pretty high I would say!
As long as he keeps scoring goals fine but I still think his desire is driven by personal gain and not the team!

What can I say? Ade is growing on me. He's banging in the goals, so it's hard to knock the fella. I've gone from really not liking him to being quite torn on the matter. Maybe I'd feel a little better about him being in the side if we had some other options (sorry, don't rate Bendtner, and I think Eduardo needs a strike partner. As for RvP, well...).
Kevin Phillips scored 30 league goals one season, so I won't be getting too carried away with Ade after this season is out. However, if he can maintain his goalscoring form and become a little more effective over the rest of the pitch, then I'll soon not be able to say a bad word about him,
Keep up the good work, Ade. You're proving this Gooner wrong
Ade has proved a lot of us wrong and he is doing a solid job . But regarding your question IHH about Ade scoring goals of Henry calibre i cant agree .
I cant remember even one goal that Ade has scored from well outside the box , nor do i recall him scoring from a freekick . Lets not even talk about the goal he scored against the scum when he singlehandedly took the ball from his own half and beat 4 or 5 players .
Henry is the best striker too have graced the premiership and i dont expect Ade to match his godliness , he is doing a good enough job and as you mentioned his aerial prowess does give us another dimension .
edit : also forgot to mention Henry's passing ability was infinately better then Ade , though it must be mentioned Ade is still a young lad and has the potential to improve so fingers crossed . I have to admit that so far Ade has stepped it up a notch every season he has been with us and if the trend continues he could be world class in a year or two .
I've gotta say that now I am an Ade fan, but I was very sceptical at the start and thought he wasn't up to playin at Arsenal, but I will admit that I was wrong.
And because I am a guy, and just admitted I was wrong, a bit of my soul just died. Thanks to whoever started this thread)

WHAT ABOUT THE VOLLEY AGAINST SPURS? OR EVEN LOOK AT THE TWO HE SCORED ON SATURDAY WHEN HE BEAT A COUPLE OF PLAYERS WITH HIS MOVEMENT AND PACE (EVEN NUTMEGGING ONE OF THEM BEFORE SCORING THE SECOND GOAL). ANYWAY, TO PICK OUT INDIVIDUAL GOALS HENRY SCORED IN 8 YEARS (WHEREAS ADEBAYOR HAS ONLY BEEN WITH US FOR TWO) IS FUTILE BECAUSE I COULD JUST AS EASILY ASK HOW MANY HEADERS DID HENRY SCORE?
SURE THE TWO PLAYERS HAVE DIFFERENT STYLES, AND I'M IN NO WAY TRYING TO SAY THAT ADE IS IN HENRY'S CLASS YET. BUT THE POINT I WAS MAKING EARLIER IN RESPONSE TO A COMMENT ABOUT THE STYLE OF HENRY'S GOALS WAS THAT ADE HAS ALSO SCORED HIS FAIR SHARE OF EXCITING AND EXTRAORDINARY GOALS (REMEMBER THE ONES AGAINST NEWCASTLE AWAY AND AT HOME AGAINST WEST HAM?)
IT'S ALSO VERY HARD FOR ADE TO SCORE FROM FREE-KICKS WHEN HE DOESN'T GET TO TAKE ANY! AND HOW MANY ATTEMPTS DID HENRY HAVE FOR THE RETURN OF THE ODD GOAL OR TWO HE DID SCORE FROM FREE-KICKS?
ALL OF WHOM WOULD COST YOU PROBABLY THREE TIMES WHAT ADE COST AND CERTAINLY WELL OVER £20MILLION EACH. SURPRISED YOU DIDN'T MENTION ETO, RONALDINHO, MESSI AND DROGBA WHILE YOU WERE AT IT.
I think Adebayor has scored some great goals, notably against Sp*rs I remember hearing that Ruud Van Nistelrooy never scored for Man Utd outside the box, and look how many goals he scored; nobody at Man Utd complained. Henry is a rare talent; one of our best attacking players ever so to except Adebayor to replicate him is unrealistic.
Ruud Van Nistreloy though, has to work on his penalties

NO-ONE IS SAYING ADEBAYOR IS THE BEST PLAYER IN THE WORLD (ALTHOUGH HE IS THE BEST IN AFRICA!! ) BUT BY GOD, THE MAN IS DOING A GREAT JOB.
TONIGHT'S GOAL MAKES IT SEVEN SUCCESSIVE GAMES IN WHICH HE HAS SCORED - NOW THAT'S CONSISTENCY - AND ALL OF WHICH HAVE COME DURING THE PERIOD WE HAVE BEEN 'STRUGGLING' TO PLAY OUR BEST FOOTBALL. YET PARTLY DUE TO THOSE GOALS, WE HAVE CONTINUED TO PICK UP THE POINTS.
SERIOUS FOLKS, WHAT MORE COULD WE FAIRLY ASK OF HIM OR ANYONE ELSE FOR THAT MATTER?
i think the biggest testament to ade is when defenders of other big clubs - like someone pointed out on here, said he was the hardest forward they played against last season. Its not only his goals, but his all round contribution and teamwork/workrate (some of you may be sayin 'you what?' but watch next game) that make him so special. He also thrives off the crowd, certainly a player who loves the boos ass much as the cheers from home or away fans and is fast becoming a cult hero. The guy has surprisingly become the lynchpin for potential success this season and an integral part of our first team - i bet u when opposition defenders see that they've got ade and eddy up front, they know they're in for well hell of a tought 90 minutes.
Which brings me onto my next point - readin an article in this latest gooner today at the game about our new plan b(ee) tactic (apologies for the author whose name i forgot, plus am too lazy to go over and get my fanzine off the table) who quite rightly points out that with our new long ball tactic we certainly pose more of a threat to teams who come to shut up shop against the arsenal by hoisting the ball long for ade, who can bring others into the game, run freely at defenders or knock it down for eddy to have a go at goal.
With that in mind, hats off (and pants if you feel that way inclined - leave the kleenex out of this one though) to mr.adebayor, certainly one of many rising stars who have risen to the challenge of challenging for the premiership crown. Phew!!
