I am speculating here (cos I dont know what goes on in sid's head but then again who does

I think most of us realise what sid was saying to be fair. The problem with this theory though is that the fans are basically divided into two camps now (proWenger and antiWenger to simplify it).augie wrote:I had been predicting for a while now that we would be in a battle with the chavs and the scum for the last 2 champs lge spots (3rd and 4th) but with the chavs ongoing collapse I now believe we will finish 3rd. The only get out clause in my prediction is that it depends on our response from the pasting we will get from barca cos historically this team doesnt usually respond will in times like that and a severe beating could lead to a total capitulationOf course a good performance and a respectable defeat could actually give the team confidence to kick on although as a team these guys either seem to have a total lack of belief or suffer from over confidence......there just doesnt seem to be a middle ground for them

I am speculating here (cos I dont know what goes on in sid's head but then again who does) but I would suggest that sid's concerns re winning the carling cup is that should we do so many fans will point to that and claim it to be a good season even if we collapse in every other competition. Winning the beer cup would be nice (nothing more than that) but seeing as we have a real real chance at winning our first league title in 7 years a collapse would be a catastrophy and is something that would and should bring a backlash especially if a lack of centre backs was cited as a big reason for missing out on the league
Little short of an excellent post.DB10GOONER wrote:I think most of us realise what sid was saying to be fair. No matter what happens I think there won't be a paradigm shift either way. There won't be mass protests against Wenger. If we win the final but collapse on all other fronts the proWengerites will point at winning the final as success and there are enough of them to drown out the antiWengerites more or less. The antiWengerites will point to a collapse as what they predicted and to the final win as "not enough".
Even if we lose the final and collapse on all other fronts the ProWengerites will point to getting to the final as justification of The Project.
I think both sides of the divide are so entrenched that in effect nothing will change.
As for the board? They will never sack Wenger while he keeps the CL money coming in and throws in an odd cup final appearance every few years - something he can do even with the poor players in the current squad. And they will certainly never sack him because SOME of our fans (I'm one) want Wenger to go because of his consistant failure to deliver the success (or at very least address the obvious team issues) that we demand. We simply don't come into the board's management equation to that extent.
Fixed that for you marc.marcengels wrote:My missus wants to throat your cock DB10.DB10GOONER wrote:I think most of us realise what sid was saying to be fair. You can blame me for whatever you want but you know the truth - your misery is because of your pain and frustration and dispappointment at what has happened the last six years, and perfectly understandable.flash gunner wrote: Well said Also it isnt USMartin that ruins threads like this with his obsession with the board its the posters that reply to him prolonging his obsession and our misery![]()

we'll do what we ALWAYS do. but maybe (and thats a BIG MAYBE!) with one piece of silverware. The board will be happy and nothing will change......goonersid wrote:I think the question we should be asking ourselves is "can we fuck up a top 4 finish"? the answer most definitely being yes.
With Kos and Squillachi looking likely to be our CB pairing for a while to come (anyone believing TV will be back soon will be disappointed), Al only an injury away from being back between the sticks and a morale crushing heavy loss to Barca pending, it could well happen.
Add to this our awful home form, the spuds grinding out results and the mousers new found belief and I don't think a top 4 finish is by any means guaranteed.
This is why Wenger will now be praying that he can win the tinpot carling cup, he can then use that as this seasons "success".
So I am going to say it and you can all slate me for not being a "true fan" But if I ask myself in all honesty "do I want us to win the Carling Cup? Then the answer is probably NO.![]()
Enough is enough, and I don't care what misfortune or failure we have to endure, if the means finally justify the ends and we are rid of this lying, pathetic excuse of a man.
