Rooney

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Because I have hardly seen a tv all weekend or been near my pc I have missed a lot of the media love in with shrek's goal but it was a great goal and the type of goal that will always kill off a game like that. I think the reaction that summed it up best was the hushed silence that broke out in The Gunners pub yesterday when it went :(

Good ol' Lee Dixon. :D :barscarf: :barscarf: :barscarf:

TBH the shot looked fantastic. But it could easily have ended up in row Z. A shin is a shin. Lucky.

But then I just hate Rooney and love Batistuta.
Is it me or did the keeper not make enough effort with that one?
When Batigol pulls the trigger, resistance is useless. 8)

Paddy Barclay and Steve Lomas picked out many goals as good as and some better on ESPN last night...it's Sky that are creaming over this along with the Red Tops... Adebayor's goal at the lane in 2007 was featured .love or hate him that was a great goal by Adebuyme... Andy Gray said at the time he mis-controlled it with his first touch and had to swing at it.

It was a good goal, undoubtedly. Shin or not, his timing and athleticism was excellent, and it gets points for added drama being a game winner in a derby by a player who's had a torrential season.

That being said:
-there are better bicycle kick goals out there (a couple of Ronaldinho's spring to mind)

-even with its popularity and quality, its STILL overplayed in the English media. If it was RVP bicycle kick winner vs Sp*rs you'd hear maybe 30-40% as much hype as you do about this Rooney one.
