As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

It has been clearly stated on many, many occasions, that the figures are officially based on tickets sold.
One example is the Barca game- SOLD OUT
Stoke-SOLD OUT
Yet the official attendance at Stoke is higher that Barca. They expect us to believe that Stoke brought more than Barca to the Grove? This is just another in a long line of examples of how the people running the club take us for mugs

And anyway, who cares. Do you feel as though they are lying to you personally ?
As some one said on another thread said, this reminds me of the Simpsons episode
The club is good
The club is great………
For every Champions League game the club have to provide a 'few hundred' extra tickets for UEFA bigwigs / liggers / sponsors etc, and as these are not paid for as such by the seat holders, they are not part of the official attendance figures.
That is why Stoke attendance shows as higher than Barcelona.
Or just stick with 'the club are muggings us off / lying to us / treating us like wankers' etc.

It's just another stick to bash Arsenal with and have a good old moan about. Don't pretend it to be anything other than that.
I think it's more to do with the fact that club which we all love, which used to be all about class, embarrasses both themselves & the fans with acts like this.
It's a further extension of them perpetuating the myth that all is well & good, the stadium is full to the brim & never mind the fact we just lost a cup final to relegation fodder, people are so excited to see us stuff a League One side.

I think there is nothing embarrassing about it.
The thousands in attendance and the millions watching around the world know full well that by the time the teams get ready to rumble, the stadium is not actually full to capacity.
It is just a tax regulation.
If there were thousands left for the O's game maybe the TX should work like bid up TV or one of those whereby every ticket gets sold but only at a price that everyone is willing to pay. Then all 10 thousand extra get sold and the ground is full even if people end up only paying £15.00 a ticket. Surely that is better than 2 thousand people buying one on TX at £50 a ticket and then leaving 8 thousand ST holders getting nothing, empty seats and the club getting less money?
If the club have to announce tickets sold on the day (which I'm pretty sure isn't a legal requirement), then why is it that other clubs don't announce 'tickets sold', and instead announce attendance? It's the fact that we seem to be the only club doing this that makes it so annoying. If it's a legal directive, then the club, the FA, the Premier League, UEFA or the taxman should say so.
And I don't understand what the problem would be if, last night for instance, the club announced the attendance at 45,000, and then highlighted on their books / tax documents that a total of 59,000 seats were in fact sold. The taxman wouldn't have a problem with that, and as long as the books are maintained accurately - which I assume they are - then there's no problem.
The only real problem would arise if the club announced an attendance of 45,000 when the stadium was clearly full-up. THEN, the taxman might be interested (or indeed, relevant to the conversation).
Tickets sold not attended...simples. My 2 seats were empty last night as my little daughters were ill and couldn't get last minute babysitter...otherwise would have been there as usual

Whatever. Either way is good.
Already stated it is down to UEFA, mate. Couple of pages ago.

If i was to tell you that we have had THREE security threats since we opened the new stadium would you believe me?
The evacuation of the Emirates has been made an integral part of the training the stewards have. It is a vital tool in the safety of the fans.
Also did you know that on the night the murder of the Ukrainian leader poisioned was actually committed by a man who was sitting in club level with plutonium still on his hands......
Firstly they announce it as ATTENDANCE, that is clearly wrong. Against Orient for instance there was clearly somewhere around the 45-48,000 in attendance.
Secondly, from a health and safety point of view it must be borderline illegal to announce there are 60,000 in the ground when there are nowhere near that. If a bomb went off, would the club be able to provide accurate figures to the emergency services? Using electronic entry systems means they should be able to say EXACTLY how many are in attendance and what seats they are sitting in, this is different to tickets sold.
I think what the club do is both wrong and misleading.
I think 45-48000 is generous. Although the ground wasn't empty by any means around us at least it was no better than 50:50. So that would be about 30000, plus the away "support" (ahem) so my estimate would be nearer to 40000.
What gets me is that 40000 fans turning up against Orient was a fucking good attendance and certainly nothing to be ashamed about. What's embarassing is hearing the laughter when they stick 59-60000 up on the big screen with empty seats galore....
If the club want to publish TICKETS SOLD then why don't they just say that when they announce it on the big screen. The ATTENDANCE should be just that....and yes, although in the big scheme of things it isn't that important, I would like to know how many people are actually at a game.
The real issue here is that the attendance figure given is so high becasue our 44k season ticket holders are automatically included as it was the last of the 7 cup games on the package. The empty seats demonstrate to the club that thousands of Arsenal fans couldn't be bothered turning up even though they have shelled out for the seat already. I feel ripped off (even though I was there) because if we get through against Barca the QF home leg wil be top dollar instead of it already being included becasue it was used for a league 1 side we should have beaten away from home.
Time to take the FACup off the ST. Sell the tickets for what they are worth ie marginally above the price for Carling Cup games.
