Lehmann in talks to re-sign ( On SSN)

Why use Coco to qualify your defence of Lehmann. Too different keepers. Just because Wenger put up with Coco doesn't make Lehmann better than he was. It's well accepted by most that Coco is shite at best.

To answer your questions about Lehmann. The signs were there, even from the beginning that he was seriously error prone. Lehmann was a good agile shot stopper but his decision making was often poor and got worse. He made high profile clangers in big games. His push on Keane at WHL that resulted in the penno (could have cost us the unbeaten record, could have cost us the joy of winning the PL at the Swamp), his 30 yard headless chicken dash out to miss the fucking ball that helped fuck the CL quarters against the chavs, his stupid red card in Paris 06. That's just off the tip of my tongue. There are more. Towards the end of his time with us his nickname amongst many Gooners was "the clown".

All of those errors were the very things that Coco and Flappy get (rightly) slated for.

I think too many people look back on Lehmann with seriously rose tinted spectacles because he was part of the 04 unbeaten team and the fact he achieved cult status as a bit of a mad bastard.

Don't get me wrong. He was a good keeper, not great, but good, at his peak. But his poor decision making let him down too often.

But nowdays? Poor decision to bring him back. Would be better to try and bring in a younger 2nd choice GK from a smaller club.
I am sorry but calling someone who was awarded Europe's best goalkeeper and came 2nd in the World's best goalkeeper in 2006 voted by neutral experts (not to mention two clean sheet records in the CL and for the German national team in 2006) "just good" says a lot about the kind of spectacles you are wearing. Ridiculous.

Lehmann plays a high risk game that has it's undeniable values and positive effect but naturally IF he makes a mistake, which every keeper does, it is bound to be a spectacular error because his game is based on coming off the line. Lehmann always made a couple of errors of that kind per season but in return his teams, ALL of them, conceded few goals, got a solid defense and won stuff with him. Almunia does not only make far more errors, he also does not have any of the skill Lehmann has maybe with exception of the occasional good reflex.
The points that keepers like Lehmann and van der Sar can afford a couple of weird errors per season, their overall value exceedes those by miles.
And please stop blaming him for the CL final. He had the opponent running freely at his goal throughout the tournament and Arsenal should have never been there in the first place had he not been so excellent so I wonder what you expected of him in that scene?
Hold the fuck on there. You are telling me who I can and cannot blame? I was at that fucking final, I spent my hard earned money going to it. I'll blame whoever the fuck I want. I suggest you watch it again. Lehmann rushed out like a headless chicken, arms high, eyes closed and feet forward. It was a stupid mistake of the kind he tended to do in high profile games and it cost my club it's biggest honour. He fucked up. Again. Deal with it.

And to say we only got there because of him is ridiculous. Our defence and style of play were key contributing factors in that CL run.

And wasn't the UEFA GK award voted by EUFA magazine??! Was it a poll of readers?
Someone is very touchy-feely over that final I guess. Look, Arsenal wouldn't have been there without Lehmann, period. I couldn't count the times the defense was completely clueless and let though shot after shot. The games against Villarreal alone were so onesided it was ridiculous. Arsenal parked, no, tried to park the bus and still Villarreal came through again and again. In the first leg Eboue nearly screwd things up in the last few minutes and in the second leg Clichy nearly ruined it. If not for Lehmann at his best Arsenal would have, as always, never reached the final. It's not like Arsenal has ever done well internationally anyway. What is it? One Uefa Cup win in club history?

And the Uefa awards are voted for by head coaches. Same with IFFHS (pros and journalists). They are not all German as far as I know so please forgive me if I value the judgement of actual professionals and experts over the judgement of a disgruntled fan.

Crazy Jens had to wait 49 games until he first tasted defeat in a league match at Arsenal, he didn't do that by accident.

He maybe old and past it nowadays, but he is an invincible and each and every invincible deserves our adulation (with the exception of Cashley)
