Trouble in the stands.

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

shocking how people can get like that

i agree it does feel like a home and away dividence ..
This is one of the rows i was talking about.
The old man was sticking up for me. The young lad kicked off with me first. Then it all went mental!

It has happend a few times this season. Not nice to watch or be a part of
When you say "young lad", how young was he? As someone said already the over 30's seem to accept that Wenger may have nothing left to offer whereas the younger supporters seem to be clinging onto him. I'm just wondering if this fits this or is it too general?
He was about 20. I am in my 30's and the old guy was about 50. The younger one wanted to fight all of us.
What made me laugh, was the old guy that came along and said 'We can talk dirty about Wenger, but not in the Grove'

Time for a care home me thinks

I know 2 ex collegues that have died too young fighting for there country, but I really dont see how you can use this as an argument. No relevence at all.

I have also witnessed first hand Gooner on Gooner fights over Wenger. At Ipswitch away a fight broke out just after kickoff infront of me over Wengers decision to play Denilson. They both got escorted out then just before the final whistle to older blokes started rowing over anti/pro wenger remarks.

Didnt think much of it untill now but after reading your posts it does make sence.

I thought as much. I watched the 2nd leg of the Barca tie in a pub and went out for a cigarette afterwards, I got chatting to another supporter in his early/mid 20s. I expressed the view that it was time for Wenger to go and explained that I wasn't baseing that view on that result but over the last few years things were going downhill. His answer? Well, it was as simplistic as could be. He had been a supporter for 16 or 17 years and in his mind Wenger would always be a legend :banghead:

I threw away my cigarette and went back inside. I'm not saying that this is typical of every 20 something but I'm begining to form that opinion.

Has it really got so low that we gooners are turning on each other? Its not just on the O.G where heated debates break out anymore. This isn’t a good thing and there shouldn’t be such a huge divide amongst Arsenal fans???
I myself have been in a few heated arguments at the grove and its always a Wenger apologist turning around shouting back at us, getting angry with what we are saying.
Twice its nearly turned into a fight with the AKB’s actually wanting to fight due to hearing negative comments made about the Le Boss.
Every game I hear the same shouting at one another and on occasion’s stewards running in too split fights up. Every time the arguments are about Wenger , why he didn’t sign anyone or basically someone shouting out abuse aimed at the Manager.
During the Blackburn game it got so bad that stewards had to run in and calm things down and split up various fights. All of this caused by someone who got that angry with what he was hearing he wanted to fight everyone in close proximity.
It doesn’t stop there , the heated exchanges continue outside also. During the cup final there were reports of various fights in the ground and on route back to the station. Saw a few myself on the way out and know of friends that got in fights on the way back to Wembley park! Even in the ground there were fans shouting at one another regarding Wenger!

Its got to the point now that I know the next home game if we don’t win it will kick off again, and again all down to the divide in fans over the Manager.

I have never seen this kind of thing before in all my years of going the arsenal. The divide is so strong now that at games its like we have home and away fans standing together.

Has it really got that bad that not only is the Le Boss killing the club he is also causing us to fight each other?

No it's just thugs being thugs, how anyone can blame wenger for twats getting lairy with each other is beyond me.

They should grow up, we have soldiers dying almost everyday in a place they would never have wanted to go and many more losing one or more limbs yet when you see them on tv they act with impeccable dignity.

A lot of them then go and do much for charities even after having their lives irrevocably changed.

And here we have some supporters who get pissed and moan that we haven't won a trophy for a few years, fuck me, I despair sometimes.

There have always been thugs at football mate, it used to be part of the game in a sick kind of way.

This is different. Its been gradually getting worse and worse this season. Its not a coincidence that every time its about the manager. This isn’t just thugs getting their kicks trust me.
Its fans having such strong views it boils into anger and frustration. In the end the fans turn on each other due to having such different views regarding the Manager.
We can blame it on thugs but its not as simple as that.

I know about the thug thing in the past, I went to my first game in '80 and it wasn't nice as a kid (and being with other kids, all form a youth football team) being chased down the road by a bunch of adult thugs just cos we had Arsenal scarves on.

My view on football thugs is that they are cowards who hide behind a load of other cowards all pissed up and waiting to find someone who is isolated or just young so they know the odds are all stacked in their favour.

Anyway, i get your point about fans turning on each other, it happens on this forum all the time, this could also be attributed to the present financial climate and a lot of frustration from many contributing factors all coming to the boil when Arsenal put in another dismal display.

I suppose the one time these people are looking for a break from the day to day bad news, wage cuts, redundancies etc is going to watch Arsenal and when the entertainment and result are not what they wanted then some tempers will be lost.

I agree with this but it's not all wengers fault, the players he stuck out against blackburn were more than good enough to get the job done, maybe they just aren't playing for him anymore. Though i would blame the players for this, it's not as of they aren't being paid enough is it.

Yeah its a strange one indeed. For as long as ive been watching The Arsenal you'll always get some quite how shall we say quite vocal fans who are giving it, "bendtner your a *word censored*", "denilson take of the shirt you dont deserve to wear it", "Almunia you're a fucking useless twat" . No-one usually bats an eyelid, or at worst you get a "siiiiiddd daarrn you mug" from an offended fan with kids or something.

But as soon as you mention the name of his holiness wenger in a negative light you can get really set-upon by some right on arsenal fans. And I mean really abused. Ive seen fans calling for wengers head getting stewards called on them (why?), told to fuck off down the lane and support them lot and even had plastic bottles thrown at them. Its bonkers.

I just dont get it, why does talking about wenger evoke such extreme reactions. The dudes like a human Nitroglycerin or something.
