What charge? I honestly didnt know it was against the law. Tbh though that seems to be an isolated case in the big smoke.DB10GOONER wrote:Irishgooner - while words may not be illegal in Oireland, racism is. There was a famous case in Dublin a few years ago where a white Dubliner called a black Nigerian guy the "N" word after a near miss at a traffic lights. Two off duty cops overheard it and arrested him for racist abuse. The guy was fined.
I agree, but there will always be a certain element of racism going around but it seems its been eliminated from the stands.gunner_ace wrote:Agree with the view if they call themselves the y** army , and sing chants like "jermain defoe, y***", then the word is fair game for anyone else to use.
Also agree that the lets kick it out campaign has served its purpose now. I have not seen any overtly open racism at any game for quite a while now, but certainly not in the last 5 years. In fact I think their campaigns actually serve to stirring up racism where none is present, Its almost as if they are trying to manufacture an outpouring of commendation as so they can act upon it and justify their existence. How do they even get their funding anyway? My taxes no doubt *sorry for going a bit daily mail at the end*
I agree wholeheartedly that there isnt place for holocaust stuff but to me I for one have not heard a chant like that in the stadiums or through tv for a long long time.Vince wrote:I talked about it with a gooner from north london, but who is israeli. Me neither. I don't think there's a antisemitism problem in the stadium.Irish Gooner wrote:I agree wholeheartedly that there isnt place for holocaust stuff but to me I for one have not heard a chant like that in the stadiums or through tv for a long long time.Vince wrote:I talked about it with a gooner from north london, but who is israeli. I could be wrong I usually am, but I just have not heard it.
yep your right there. I think it all depends on the undercurrent to it, alot of people just use these words without anything behind it or on a wind up.DB10GOONER wrote:I do find it a bit strange that some people are mortally offended by words that other people find not offensive at all. Being an Oirishman (and one that worked on the sites in London) I never took offence to the Engerlish lads calling me "Paddy" or "Mick" but some of my fellow Micks did. Saw more than a few scraps go off because of it.
The problem is IG, the person who is offended has no idea sometimes whether you have hate in your heart or not. They associate the word with hate, and/or hateful actions, so it is therefore always offensive.Irish Gooner wrote:yep your right there. I think though there are some people who genuinely hate blacks, Irish, jews etc etc and just use these words as a tool for their hate.
I dunno how I would feel if some English bloke detested me as a person just cause I'm Irish, and threw in alot of names in my direction. I probably wouldnt take to kind to that.
Personally I always try not be abusive to people, especially those I dont know, but I have a problem with constant swearing and mood swings as most on this forum probably have long realised () and when it comes to football the fireworks come out.
I have nothing against any race and Im in dismay when hear those who do , but I wont pretend I dont use a few words close to the line and I am someone who strongly hates the politically correct bullshit these days.
As Ireland generally follows Englands lead in alot of this stuff I hope we never get as bad as over there!
