Just to try to explode a couple of myths:
1. It need not take 10 years or whatever to get accustomed to a new stadium. I loved Highbury as much as is possible - I still go back regularly to try to recreate the memories - and was ambivalent about the E-word for most of last season. Now, with a far superior view of a resurgent Arsenal playing such beautiful football, I love the place and the whole experience of visiting the type of ground one only got to occasionally when the team did well enough, like Wembley or the Millenium Stadium.
2. Age has little bearing on the desire or generally the ability to sing. Just ask Frank Sinatra - alright that might be difficult I admit, but you know what I mean. Given the right environment and surrounding crowd, I sing no less than I did 30 years ago.
3. It's certainly easier to sing when you're standing. However, given the chequered history of English football and potential for hooliganism whenever the opportunity arises - think England abroad - any standing area will be seen by the authorities as a risk. Personally, I think a controlled experiment with small, separated, reserved standing areas (so disruptive people could have their tickets withdrawn), well away from away fans, would probably be safe enough and definitely improve the atmosphere. But if your job depended on it would you take that risk?
Club level could be the death of football (12/2)
Club level or the ' tragic circle ' as it is known.
Eveything you say is correct. The majority of those who inhabit the tragic circle have no place in a football ground and the sooner they bugger off back to rugby the better. Most real Arsenal fans treat them with the disdain they deserve. We sing our songs , support our team and pretend they're not there. Occasionally we give them the wanker sign when they appear 15 minutes into the second half and ' we can see you sneeking out ' when the leave with 10 minutes to go. I would like to hear more ' you can stick your fucking prawns up your arse ' or something along those lines anyway . I am sure i am not alone in saying i'd rather watch Arsenal in the 2nd division than have to share a ground with these parasites. One day the football bubble will burst and we will go back to 30 - 35 ,000 real Arsenal fans in the ground.
Club Level
I'm in Club Level and can see where our friend is coming from. I've sat next to different people every game for the last two seasons as the block of four seats next to me are all corporate owned.
However, if you are to pay the preposterous wages these players get, then you need Club Level - or an equivalent.
That's just how life/football now is.

Re: Club Level
It's a chicken and egg situation - if there wasn't the capacity to skin fans for a few quid then the players couldn't make the demands as the money wouldn't be there would it?Rob wrote:I'm in Club Level and can see where our friend is coming from. It's how inflation works - too much money chasing too few goods - millions of fans only 60,000 seats. If naked market forces came into act then they may be able to charge the sillyest money possible.
