Happy May 26th 1989 day

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I know it was 91:26 on the game clock but what time of night was it?? From memory I think it was about 9:55pm.

Sounds stupid but I've never thought to find out before even though it is and always will be the best moment of my life. Followed by one of the worst when Mickey played that f**king casual back pass to John Lukic. Nearly shat myself as that rolled back . . . . . .

I'm already getting goosebumps just thinking about it - gonna raise a glass to George and the lads at about five to ten tonight!
didnt the game kick off at 8.05 if i remember rightly so the exact time would be 9.51... I dont know this for definate just working through the times etc

I think you're right with kick-off time Flash as it was delayed slightly. I've always thought it was about five to ten but that was the last thing on my mind at the time.

Also - I remember the game clock being taken off the screen by ITV just after it went to 90 minutes. And back then there was no way of knowing how long the ref would add.

Yeah mate the time was the last thing i was thinking about at that moment. :D The kick off was delayed due to traffic problems

Very few football fans have ever found themselves in that position throughout the history of football yet we did, us gooners who were around then are very priviledged, the hair on my neck still go up when i see the goal :barscarf:

If you look closely at the Arsenal fans in the top right corner you can see a few scatter cushions being thrown in the air just after Thomas scores!

Watched it again last night too! 8)

What it brought back to me was one of the reasons WHY it is such a great and well loved moment;

the absolute utter despair I felt in the last 5 minutes before St Micky scored. To have been winning the league and then thrown away something like 19 points over the Mousers in 2 or 3 months and then to have scored 1 goal on the night. To have come so close after 18 fucking years and then not do it. I felt devestated, gutted.

And then it was;

"There are the signals, "Get forward", "Get forward"...

"One minute to go...

"McMahon has got the word from The Kop, obviously...

"But nobody knows quite how much time the referee will add on...

"Arsenal come streaming forward now in surely what will be their last attack...

"A good ball by Dixon, finding Smith, for Thomas, charging through the midfield...

"Thomas, It's up for Grabs now... THOMAS!"

Cue pandemonium!

Another question for you all.

My mates and I drove up to Highbury on Saturday morning, pretty much straight after getting home from a night club in sarf London where we'd drunk and sang til it got light again. When we got to Highbury I saw one of the funniest things I've ever seen in my life. I turned my car off Blackstock Rd into Elwood Street and Elwood was completely blocked by about 15 blokes on their knees, praying to the East Stand. Me and my mates sat in my car pissing ourselves laughing and it remains one of the most surreal things I've ever seen. It hit me then just what that League victory meant to all of us!!

Was anyone on here one of the blokes praying?
