It's an old Engerland problem I think. How many times have players been picked no matter how off form or under performing they were, all because of who they were?
A manager should not be afraid to drop big names if they are strolling it and not bothering or are going through a poor spell of form. He should also determine a system that is effective and select players that thrive in that system, whether they are big names or not.
The mostly anonymous Lampolard is the perfect example. He's poor at the moment and offers little to that team but they won't drop him because it might upset wankers like Terry, Piglips, Grannyrapist and the Mobile Phone Addict.
Wilshere pissed all over him on Saturday.

I agree with much of that tbh. We have found this out since B£nt decided to snivel his way off- Capello has come out and said that a move to Villa has helped his international chances, and B£nt has said in a press conference that Capello told him to leave us and go to Villa, Capello has even come out and said that the *word censored* is a better player since he left. How the fuck could he be a better player? He's the exact same player he has always been, but that doesn't matter to Capello and everyone in the England set up. They are, and always have been, totally biased against the "unfashionable" sides. Capello hasnt been to Sunderland for 20 months, so only sees our players in away games where we often struggle, how the fuck can he expect to get a true knowledge of who is good and who isnt when us (and Newcastle) are never watched at home? Fact is he hardly needs to go and watch Chelsea/ Arsenal/ Man United, he knows perfectly well what Cole/ Wilshere/ Rooney can do, so why is he not paying more attention to the other clubs
This is where England struggle, if you are an overrated plodder like Lescott or Milner, you'll be in every time, if you do a great job for Sunderland you'll be overlooked, or given the odd chance in a joke friendly (as Henderson, who will end up at least nearly as good as Wilshere, was). Its all geared towards the big clubs, and the "big name players" who are the only sides/ players that Capello can be arsed to go and watch for his £6m a year and its a fucking joke.
I love the national team and will always support them, but its no surprise that many fans feel totally disconnected from them nowadays.
My other concern is with how much the players genuinely want to play for the country nowadays. The amount of drop outs when friendlies are played is a joke, and many of the players are already in the more prestigious Champions League. Whatever people say, I dont think the players really care, the ever increasing number of treacherous *word censored* who "retire" from international football because they cant be arsed is the tip of the iceberg. I am absolutely convinced that a lot of players only want to be in the England set up because it gives their image a boost and leads to more lucrative sponsorship deals. Players are arseholes nowadays, not a drip of loyalty or pride amongst them.
