Yes, Rio is a little injury prone but he isn't going to replace him or Vidic. Then there's still Smalling.

Even Liverpool would have been a better option for him. :?
In what aspect? I would say it's the perfect transfer for him.
He's going to be on the bench for some considerable years.
Smalling featured a lot throughtout the season for them, so I can't see why he wouldn't be the same, expecially with Rio's recurring injuries. A couple successful seasons could see him being first choice cb for the next decade.
This is what I'm saying....he's going to be 4th choice centre back.
He'll be ahead of Smalling imo but the prospect of playing for Man United seems a lot more appealing than plying your trade at Liverpool.

why the fuss?

ambition? you're joking right.

Would you want this 5'11" CB at Arsenal? He might be good for arsenal but with what we have surely not for us!

I agree with the Manc being more appealing but I think he'll have to earn his stripes with Fergie. I see Smalling and Jones fighting for a seat on the bench. This is why it's strange were as with us and L'Pool he'd more likely be a 1st team player and play in CL games.

He just turned 19, chances are he hasnt stopped growing. The boy has talent, enough to earn a starting place much like Jacky boy has done in midfield.

Yeah but he's going to win trophies at United. It's not a difficult choice at all. Why would he want to join Arsenal?

Just a thought but can Blackburn really afford to sell Samba now?
Losing both your centreback paring?

Also means Liverpool may need to turn there attention to Cahill who's likely to go to Citeh.

What so he might grow another 6 inches lol

Everyone moans about our midget defenders and then moan when we don't sign another, please show some continuity in your moaning lads.

We do need 2 centre halves IMO but big fuck off ones with EXPRIENCE.

At least know a bit about a player before lambasting others! Jones plays RB, CB and midfield FFS. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

If we ever do sign a centre half for 16m, then I want it to be either someone like Cahill (supposedly available at a similar fee and proven over a longer period in the PL) or a top class international stopper. Either way they are available in the market at the same price as Jones and we don't have any more time to gamble

exactly leftfoot, if we signed him, people would go nuts.

Seriously do we need to see what happens if he is paired with vermalen, two 5'11" CBs together. We dont need to see that. Gallas and Kolo weren't exaclty dominant we lost plenty of aerial battles and Vermaelen and Jones would be even shorter.

Of course i meant Jones might work with Vidic or Rio, but not with any of our CBs!!

My point still stands.
Vermaelen is just 6ft but still manages to leap like a Gazelle. You can be as tall as you like but if you cant defend then you cant defend. Hangerland is a great example of that.

Carl Jenkinson's mate.

Seriously, I've just seen that the Lancs Telegraph said that Jones spoke to Arsene last night before making his decision. Also tweeted by Youngguns.

Great signing for United and I'm gutted as he looks quality, we just can't compete, first Smalling and now Jones, this is Arsene's legacy in full effect.
