No, it's not acceptable, he knows who he wants but is faffing about, I also think who comes in ie. the more expensive Cahill/Jagielka/Baines over the cheaper Samba/Enrique/Barton will depend on if they stay or go.augie wrote:Gunnersaurus wrote:I imagine our business will be dictated by what happens to Cesc and Nasri, can see it dragging on all Summer in which time he will struggle for time or the right player like normal.
What is really pissing me off more than anything is the clubs relaxed manner and dithering to tie players down, we followed Jones and Varane for some time by all accounts but wait to bid for them until it looks like they are going to other clubs and it all looks a done deal, are we that arrogant to think that they would turn their backs on two ambitious teams that can match their ambitions by bidding at the last min?
Do they really thinking coming here is a pull over United or Madrid?
The timing is a joke, its like they know it won't be successful but bid anyway to say we tried.
But is that acceptable ? I mean we all know that we need centre backs and I would suggest we need a DM and if the money is there, which we are told it very much is, then these are issues which we should be adressing now before the transfer market heats up. If cesc and/or nasri leave then we can look at adressing that position if we feel there is a need to do so but in the meantime there is much work to do. I will also say again that I really fear that we will not get rid of the likes of bendtner, denilson, rosicky etc unless we give them away as raffle prizes so we cannot and should not depend on their sales to generate spending money
I've read Clichy is going to PSG for 10M and Bendtner may be off to Germany for possible 12M, I've got a feeling that he will spend around 45M (if Cesc and Nasri stay) but bring in around 35M which will mean the tight arse is still not pushing the boat out when we are told he can.
This is why I think there is no mad rush untill July the 1st on the clubs part when the European window opens.
Thing is whoever he buys, or not as the case may be, he has to land a trophy next season as i don't think even he will be able to ride out the storm that will come his way if we don't. What with putting ticket prices up i don't think even Gazidis or the board will be able to stop it either.
I think its a big big season for our club. To have another trophyless year, we will be looking at the same time span as the trophyless 80s and we went through 3 managers in that time.

Jim Henson had a wait and see attitude, now we've got wrong sounding muppets.MM99 wrote:But in the meantime it would be sensible to not get caught up in the hype of the summer headlines that have us linked with anyone and everyone and just wait and see what happens come September.

Everyone has their shelf-life in football and I feel sadly Arsene's has expired a long while ago.
When he first came to the club his advantage over other managers was that he was very knowledgable about young foreign talent, particularly the French scene.
Arsene was a revolutionist in his prime and his early days at Arsenal saw the existing ageing players adopt dietry and fitness overhauls that prolonged their careers at the top level.
Nowadays every club has vast scouting networks but other clubs also have the financial clout to blow Arsenal out of the water in the transfer market with the cream of the crop. Similarly his one time exclusive dietry and fitness regimes are now common place throughout English football. Football has moved on but Arsene hasn't.
Sad to say but I feel Arsene's best days are behind him and the club should actively search for the next revolutionist who will give us an edge once again.

The footballing world has learnt from him and now moved on - he is still hoping that a couple of rough diamonds for £500,000 turn into superstars, that is not going to work as every club has scouting networks and every player has an agent hawking them to the fattest paycheck, which as we all know ain't us.
We are now viewed as a stepping-stone by young players to get games (which they will) and increase their reputation before moving on to earn a fortune elsewhere.
I honestly believe that part of Arsene's "project" is to nurture players to sell them on for a large profit, which ultimately means that our team will not achieve anything much.

The season ticket money has been had boys. The orders for the new kit have no doubt been flooding in
This thread should be renamed "The is anyone remotely surprised thread"
THERE WILL BE NO MAJOR SIGNINGS - no Cahill, no Benzema, no Defoe, no Parker, no new keeper, no anchor man in midfield
We might get Samba and we'll let half a dozen disappear and recall the youth players like Bartley and Lansbury.
This is Arsenal post 2005 - get used to it for a long long time and save yourself the bother of reading Arsene's preachings in May about "adding some experience" and treat Gazidis's corporate bluff with the contempt it deserves.

I was worried that an easy fixture list in august might allow wenger and the club to mask the glaring weaknesses in the squad until the transfer window closed but I dont think they have got the 3 fixtures they would have liked to begin with. As things currently stand I will be making the trek over for the scouse game and as it is the first home game I reckon a lack of investment up to that point might lead to a hostile enviroment especially if the result aint going our way
Make sure you give Abou a wave and a clap from me mateaugie wrote:I was worried that an easy fixture list in august might allow wenger and the club to mask the glaring weaknesses in the squad until the transfer window closed but I dont think they have got the 3 fixtures they would have liked to begin with. Sadly I fear that my end of season prediction will be true that I won't be attending a single game for the first time in 30 years +
I don't see why I should pay the prices the club demands after a 4th summer in a row of false promises, sorry downright lies. Unless two centre halves come in (and he lets one of the useless fuckers go in the same position), a quick striker and a defensive midfielder come in, then we're poised for the same old Spring collapse. Can't face all that again.
The fact that we're hardly even linked with those required players whilst United have signed the best option we had available in Young, fills me with a due sense of dread.
We're sleepwalking through another window. Chelsea will be securing their targets now Villas Boas is in place, United have acted swiftly (despite winning the League and being runners up in the CL to boot !) and City we all know will do what they like, when they like.
We, as usual, will leave it till early August, before we realise that only a bunch of French "never will be's" are our only option, whilst dallying around over the last £100k or so on Samba's fee.
Expect the worse.....
I have made a conscious and painful decision not to travel until Wenger is gone, despite some considerable pressure from my usual travelling companion.augie wrote:I was worried that an easy fixture list in august might allow wenger and the club to mask the glaring weaknesses in the squad until the transfer window closed but I dont think they have got the 3 fixtures they would have liked to begin with. I understand that line of thought steve o and sid and it will be very much my frame of mind for much of the season too but I have a feeling that things will get tasty that day if players of sufficent quality have not been bought prior to that game. I have never been shy about talking up the need for serious fan protests and if it happens that day then I want to be there to back up my words and stand in unity with my fellow Gooners
Of course their is the (slim) chance that we will have bought some quality players into the club at that stage (
) and I would like to be there to welcome them into our family for the first home game of the season

Well I truly hope that we get a move on,and don't leave it to the middle of August. At least Ferguson knew his team needed major changes, and also they were certainly the best of a bad bunch last season. You see Ferguson is brutally realistic & already has taken drastic action.
I would stand by my belief that Wenger wouldn't of been able to achieve the same last season, where Ferguson basically dragged those players to the title and would have claimed the crown with any of the other top sides had he been in charge of them.
I really want Wenger to be successful, but I just cannot see the passion any longer in him, or his transfer dealings IMHO.

Sounds like we're days away from the inevitable Arseneballs quote
"Keeping this squad together has always been the priority".....
...followed by Chief *word censored* Gazidis patronising his audience with his comments about needing to fund improved player contracts from the transfer budget and declaring that we have an exciting young squad in the way that only a misinformed prick with no idea about "soccer" could.
Then we're all supposed to cheer loudly when the Michael McIntyre look-a-like trips out in Malaysia with his new 120k per week contract.
Well fuck the bloody lot of you - if you can switch off someone like me who has been going regularly for 33 years from deep rooted Arsenal stock then you can switch anyone off
