Admit to something unpopular

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

I'm not sure we need a new centre back.

wrong thread, mate. this is "admit something unpopular" not "say any ridiculous stupidity that makes no sense and makes you look like a complete jerk".

Ha! Thought that might be the response!

A few reasons:

1. I think the coaching is at fault, not necessarily the players. More often than not, LK6 and JD20 have looked to me very assured at the back and it was their first season really.

2. Any centrebacks confronted with enough high balls/through ball will make a mistake, and players like Deniaby because of losing posession/not tracking back let them see far too much action.

3. If Frimpong can make the grade, it frees up Song as another option at the back.

4. Hopefully with TV5, SS18 wont see the first team ever again.

5. Hopefully Miquel and Bartley will prove to be good backups.

I'm more worried about Gibbs at left back for an entire season really...

I think if Ferguson or Mourinho had taken over in May 2010 & had access to the same resources as Wenger we would have won the league last season.

I'm not sure TV5 is that great of a defender & maybe needs a big powerful CB next to him to bring out the best in him.

Also I though Bruce Rioch did a pretty good job for us, took over a team that had become a bit of a shambles by the end of the GG era, added Bergkamp & Platt & got us back into Europe on that amazing final day of the season. He was never going to be a guy to take us to the top but in terms of a stopgap rebuilding job I thought he did well.

I once murdered someone who used a footballers initials and shirt number instead of their name.

I think I am capable of re-offending.

Thats the problem with you guys, you are always looking at the short term picture........with each extra euro that I give them it will swell their coffers to the stage where they actually have enough cash to make a proper bid thus putting an end to this saga 8)
Always thinking of my club me
