This is the major point for me. Yes it might have been a miracle if we won the league without spending a penny, but the point is we COULD have won the league if we had that cutting edge and mentality which all comes down to man management and motivation - Wenger's job.Babu wrote:So what does that make the three in a row that "Fergie" got?!?jambug wrote:
The point is that if he had of won the PL during the last 6 years it would of been an absolute miracle considering the financial might he was up against.
And thats the point..it would of been a MIRACLE.
Manu competed with and battered chelsea with hardly any 'financial might'.
Carrick, £18m, Nani, £14m, Hargreaves, £16m, Tevez on loan, the twins £5m, Berbatov £30m.
That's the transfers in to OldT since summer 2006. Unless I've forgotten some.
So maybe £100m plus wages in 5 years.
We could and should have been able to compete with that.
Wonder how much money ManU got out of three Premier League titles in a row???
I think it was worth it.
We could easily have spent £10m extra every window on players that we needed and then seen the results. The Board stated many times that Wenger has/had money to spend.
In addition to that, if the money is there which the board and Wenger both suggest is the case, how difficult is it to buy a decent player in a position where it is desperately needed?
How many times have the fans said we need a centre half, or a commanding keeper previously. We could have had Given for £5m a few seasons ago - perfect person for what we needed at the time.
This isn't exactly breaking the bank, any fool can see that three seasons ago we needed a keeper desperately!
How many seasons do we have to watch as we falter on the same old hurdles - defending set pieces, seeing out a match. Instead we watch silly mistakes time and time and time again and season after season Wenger says he knows what we need and fails to rectify the problem.
Sure it might have been a miracle had we won the league on his budget, but a lot of it isn't really to do with megabucks, its simply to do with small but effective signings with more experience and winning mentality than our current crop of shit. In addition to that, it's a lot to do with coaching and motivation which is clearly an issue.
WE'VE GOT BUCKET LOADS OF CASH!!!jambug wrote:You forgot Rooney £30 Million. Rio £30 Million.
Just because they wasn't bought in the last 5/6 years you cant ignore them as if they was magiced out of thin air.
Fergie is a genius but a genius with bucket loads of cash. Dont prtend otherwise.
Don't pretend otherwise!!!
We're just not spending it!

Why is that? And why did we not buy a new keeper when Lehmann was past it? And why did we not... no, I've had enough of transfer talk. Quite clearly this point has been done.
So, why do we not practise set-pieces? Defence and attack?
Why does Wenger think a goal from a long throw-in or corner is not 'real' football?
Why does Wenger complain about players getting in our faces when Vieira and Petit, etc gave him so much success with just that attitude. It is a contact sport, after all.
Why does Wenger make the same substitutions at the same time almost every game?
Why does Wenger's super-bloody-tactical brain say that a small, weak, mentally pathetic player should now be the way to go, when previously it was bloody clear to him that a big, athletic muscular player was clearly better than a smaller one?
Why does Wenger insist on buying a player and then playing him out of position? And don't say "Thierry Henry!", because he was a striker ever since he was young, even when he was with Wenger the first time.
Why does...look, I'll leave it at that for the moment.
Indeed. Summer 2008 we really needed a central defensive midfielder, and Gokhan Inler came to London with his agent, but they wouldn't agree to terms of the contract, as Inler's agent wanted a get-out clause, and Wenger wouldn't accept that.worthing_gooner wrote: How many times have the fans said we need a centre half, or a commanding keeper previously. The fee was round £8m. Even with a buy-out clause, it would have helped us in season 2008/09, as we needed a bit of steel then, as we do now.
If he'd gone for more money the next summer - big IF - but if he had gone, so what? We need him then, and if we had won something then I'm sure Inler would have stayed. If not we would have got more money for him.
Oh, I forgot, it would have killed Song.

Anyway, water under the bridge.

Obviously its not the being the fourth best team in the league that grates - its the constant DECEPTION and being treated like IDIOTS.
It's the board and manager saying season after season that this team is good enough to win the league - when they are not. Its the cheek of the board asking fans to fork out the highest prices in the world to watch only the 4th best side in the country and then cursing them when they have the cheek to express their disappointment.
The bottom line is that for the past six years the fans have had to pay incredible prices to support the incredible salaries of ungrateful board members and the bunch of second rate footballers that have been wearing Arsenal shirts.
Despite Highbury's small size, Arsenal were a footballing force and did extremely satisfactory business in the transfer market. I'm failing to see how our current overall situation is in any way superior to the last years at Highbury - other than of course the size of profit margins - which are benefiting only already filthy rich board members and the mostly second rate greedy career footballers at the club.
I expect things to get worse before they get better.

The kids seem to break up for the Summer holidays earlier and earlier these days.....jambug wrote:I joined this site with the hope of finding like minded Gooners, you know guys that love Arsenal come hell or high water. Guys that actually support the team. Guys that realise that there is more to being a fan than just watching the medals roll in. Guys that are proud of the way our Club is run. Proud of the way we are still hanging in there despite sugar daddies throwing MILLIONS even BILLIONS of pounds of un earnt dosh at other clubs. But what do I find ? A bunch of whingeing whineing ungrateful fair weather, I hesitate to use the word, fans, doing nothing but gripe, gripe and gripe some more. Jeeeez, I thought it was bad on 606 but you lot take the biscuit. And this is supposed to be a site for are SUPPORTERS. If all your expectations of a football team/club are that they throw insane, unsustainable, crippling amounts of money about, in our case money we havn't got (relative to the afore mentioned I mean) then you are sad sad sad. And dont come out with that rubbish about 'we charge the most for tickets' or 'we have got the money' because that is utter bull. In the first instant, yes we do charge high prices but WHYS THAT? Because if we at least want to try to compete we have to raise the money somehow. WE HAVN'T got and most DON'T WANT a sugar Daddy therefore you and I have to pay for the ridiculously over inflated Wages and transfer fees that have been caused by the sugar Daddys in the first place. And sencondly yes of course we have money but relative to Chelsea City and even UTD? Do me a favour. And while I'm talking of favours why don't you do yourself one, and go and support the National bank of Russia or the Saudia oil barons as you seem to love money so much!!!
9 pages of arguing with pea-brains.....lets save it for more important issues.

Stick my 2 pennith in here. Jambo, you have just blurted out a load of hyperbole in one paragragh without actually stating any factual.
I would simply repeat arseblogs sentiments from this morning as an answer to you. The vitriol against this current regime isn’t just confined to the blogs and forums by some keyboard warriors like us. Why don’t you have this same conversation with the 6,000 or so Arsenal fans who didn’t renew their season tickets this year and ask them what they think.
To be fair to you Jambo I reckon you're probably quite young and cant yet tell the difference between the club and the club + its staff.
I would agree with you on one point though. There are a couple of folk round here who do love to whine at any chance. “whats that, hot-hog prices are going up 5p next season on the concourses. Wenger you’re a *word censored* who isn’t fit to existâ€
