Number 5 wrote:Lehmann was a fucking calamity of a keeper.
I could not disagree with this more.
We did not lose any of the first FORTY SEVEN League games that he played in.
Lehmann was a great keeper, and we got his best years ; A few high profile mistakes, but name one keeper who hasn't made those.
Personally, I don't think we need a new keeper, as I'm convinced that Szcezsny has the magic eye, and he will be number one for the next 15 - 20 years.
Lehmann was a liability. Fuck ups aside, and boy o boy there were a lot of them, shit distribution aside, it was his suspect temprement that I could never warm to.
You could be sure each opposition team talk would have had time allocated to the best way to get at the Arsenal goalkeeper. Stand on his toes, block his path, elbow him in the ribs.
I guarantee most teams wouldn't have allocated as much time to this had he not been such a fucking loon. Unbeaten games were not because of him, they were in spite of him.
Put that keeper in this current squad and we'd be no better.
Put Seaman in the current squad and they'd be better off by about 9 points.
Agree totally (as mentioned before - and where is our little Lehmann obsessed German mate anyway, I thought his Jens Alarm would be ringing by now!!).
His brain dead charge out at Guddjohnson (spelling?) in the CL and his retarded sending off in the CL final are just 2 of his high profile fuck ups that cost us dearly.
Don't get me wrong, Jens was a good keeper, but not a great one. Too flawed to be truly great.
And Number 5, post that self inflicted gunshot emoticon (in your siggy) in the text field of a post and I'll ask Rob to add it to our list. It is quality and would get much use on here!

Yeah, that one moment of rank petulance at the shithole could have fucked up the unbeaten season and winning the PL at their kip.
Still no German Pencil or whatever the fuck his name was??!!
How?The penalty was the last kick of the game. And if it hadnt been for Lehmann's one on one with Yakobu at Fratton park the unbeaton run would have been fucked up.Lehmann played in all 49 games of the unbeaten run that says it all

The penalty wasn't his first reaction to Keane. He could've been off the pitch earlier. My point being he reacted to every little bit of provocation by over-reacting. He was always a hair trigger waiting to go off.
I'm not saying he was a shit keeper, I think he was good, but for me he was not a great keeper because it was his individual bad decisions and over-reactions that cost us time and again. Particularly in the CL game against Chelsea when he came sprinting 30 yards and never got near the ball and blammo we are out of the CL. And his sending off in the CL final? Was ANYONE surprised? I just stood there thinking "fucking typical Jens moment of madness and now we are fucked..."
All keepers make mistakes but the great ones learn from them and don't repeat them too often. Jens never learned from them. So, for me he was a good keeper but highly flawed and thus not a GREAT keeper.

I'll see you the Yakubu and raise you a Frank Quedrue.
The shot that he allowed to sneak in to allow Boro to go 3-1 up was typical Lehmann for me.
The current side wouldn't have recovered from that. It was only the exceptional talent on the field that got us out of that one.
I'm sure there are other examples but I recall that one as clear as if it happened yesterday
I fucking hate him for the WHL debacle. Yes we didn't lose but on the day there was a huge difference in my eyes than not winning. Especially to give it up in such a ridiculous fashion.

Here you go Boss.
I bet it'll be the most used emoticon this coming season.
That banghead brickwall one has had its day, time to up the stakes.

Fair enough
I sense irony... do you really want me to say "I think Jens' major faults were caused by THE BOARD..."
There, see what you made me do? Another thread dead in the water.
