Some of the criticism on here is so OTT as to just be plain ridiculous.

Wenger wants to sign a centre back that will IMPROVE the team. Djourou and Koscielny are not world class defenders but they are far from shit and would get in the majority of first teams in the Prem.

Therefore finding better replacements to them is NOT easy. Everton want 20 million for a fairly decent 29 year old CB. Just say Wenger pays this ridiculous fee. What happens when it turns out that, in reality, he's hardly much of an improvement on a Djourou or Koscielny, as would likely happen? Oh well, we can always sell him on after a couple of seasons making sporadic appearnace. Oh wait - now you've got an average, 31 year old CB who you can perhaps sell onto a bottom of the table side for 3 or 4 million tops. Great bit of business, then.

Back in the real world, Arsenal - with our horrible defence and useless attack - finish in the top 4 every season, whilst moving into a new ground and being outspent by the new teams on the block (City and Chelsea) by an absolute fortune.

Take out the Monopoly money out of football and only Man Utd finish above Arsenal over the last ten years with any kind of regularity.

Finding a new manager isn't going to enable us to suddenly compete with the Chelsea's and City's of this world financially. If and when we drop out the top 4 that would be the moment for Wenger to hand in his notice.

I'm as frustrated as anyone at the lack of trophies and end of season implosions, but actually wanting your team to lose so your manager gets sacked is crazy. According to the bookies, Arsenal are one of four teams with some kind of hope of beating Man Utd to 1st place this year. So how about getting behind the team?

Djourou has the potential to be a good centre back but it wont happen under Wenger's coaching or playing system.

I like Koscielny as a player but he has some way to go to convince me that he has the battling qualities needed for the very top level.

Squillaci can be taken and dropped off a cliff. Bring in a top quality centre back to replace him and then hopefully we'll have a bit of competition for places back there.

I hear some people on twitter saying he was just doing it as a wind-up to keep the journo's guessing, also heard a theory he was using it to call Barca / Citehs bluff on the cesc / nasri situation. But im sorry you can just fuck right off now wenger, the time to jettison cesc and nasri was in July, not now. The time to buy proven quality replacements was in July, not now. So for whatever reason you haven’t done what’s required, we (the fans that pay the bills) are all here a day before the start of the season, pretty much in the dark as to what’s going on, dearly wanting answers and reassurances as to what exactly is happening at the club, to our best players and desperately seeking news on any more incoming signings.

Then Wenger in his infinite wisdom decides that it will be absolutely fine and just a bit of shits and giggles to mug the entire fanbase off and have a bit of a pisstake with fleet-street wit that nonsense of a press conference. I've got to be honest, I was teetering. I hear Mikey furious with him every week, I see people like Tim Stillman giving their assessment. I go from being livid to wanting to give him a chance.

Well for me, enough is enough now. This morning he could have come out and said yes Cesc and Nasri are on their way, this is what we're going to do about it.

Instead, he continues to treat us like fools and then comes out and says the defence is fine when it's blatantly obvious we're looking for a new defender - but we're scraping the barrells again with bargain basement signings like Scott Dann instead of SPENDING WHAT NEEDS TO BE SPENT.
