Can he embarrass himself any further??

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

Now things are just getting comical, and I do not like the fact that it invites some very negative comments about the man personally, saying he's "geriatric", "deluded", "senile"... I don't think it's respectful to insult or judge someone due their age.

However, AW continues to make nonsensical statements that border on crazy and you don't have much choice but to wonder "wtf, why would you possibly say that?" It was easy to defend "I don't know, I didn't see it" - sticking up for players is one thing - but when you say "No one is leaving" in the midst of Cesc leaving, and "We have Vermaelen as a new signing" it's like... well, wtf?
I agree with you I think we (myself included) have been a bit harsh calling him things like *word censored*, he's probably not a *word censored*, but I'll tell you this - he's mentally ill. Probably suffering from dementia. He should be in hospital, not running a football club.

I'll say one thing, if he IS actually ill, it would be a significant failure on the part of the club and the board to manage the health and well-being of their employees. As well, it would further contribute to the parallel between him and Herbert Chapman, who declined and eventually died during his post as Arsenal manager.

I hope for his sake that he's mentally healthy but just managing poorly.

I think if you actually watched the interview you will see a lot of it was tounge in cheek and just mugging off the Press. He has ben burnt a million times by those idiots so gives them nothing to work with.

Just a shame us fans get caught up in the act too - but it was basically half an hour of wasting the Press time in an obligatory conference he didnt want to do. Some people seem to have taken it far too seriously!

He gives the Press nothing, has done for a few years now - remember "we are not interested in Arshavin" ? Its well documented players were nabbed from us as soon as they knew of Wengers interest as it was an indicator of a good player.

Like veryone, il judge on 31 Aug how the squad looks (im far from happy now) - not give myself a heat attack over a press conference he didnt want to do.

It is bitterly ironic that this apparent "disorder" is characterized by a defensiveness  that borders on the pathological. He was always pretty dry with the cretins from the media but whereas once his comments were droll or coy and laced with an arch humour (eg "prettiest wife" etc) now they just seem bizarre.
At his press conference yesterday, you could almost taste the incredulity in the room but that unwritten code of journalistic collusion in mendacity kicked in, stopping someone from saying "What the fcuk are you on about? Cesc Fabregas isn't leaving?".
Somehow, to use a card analogy, I'm still hoping that he's actually got the flush in his hand and not just perenially representing it but these days we see what the poker player's holding and the chip leaders ultimately dictate the outcome...

But why would he do that ? Would you not agree that the press have given him a virtual free pass on his mis-management up to this point ? When many of us Gooners were criticising him over his tactics and lack of spending it was those same hacks who defended him on the basis of "fabulous football", continued champs lge qualification, limited resources etc so to turn on those morons makes no sense to me :?

Would you not also agree that he is being totally dismissive to the fans as well in yesterday's press conference ? His empire is basically burning down around him and he just sits there sneering ? Does he not think that there are over 100,000 Gooners around the world horrified and scared shitless about the future and this is the message he wants to send them ? These press conferences are all about building up hype in the game for the fans through the media and if he thinks that sitting there sneering is the appropriate course of action to take then he is a bigger self rightous *word censored* than even I thought

Two things come to mind - mental strength - Wenger definitely has it as he has become a compulsive liar in the face of contrary evidence so many times!!

Secondly he is the new Comical Ali - the guy who acted as the spokesman for Saddam Hussein during the Iraq war. Perhaps we should call him Comical Arsene from now on! What a bullshitter. He has just got to the point now where he has no credibility!!

Some people will find an excuse for this mans negligence whatever he does! It's hilarious, the mans mistakes and lies continue to mount an an incredible rate and yet there are sheep who defend him to the end. Blind loyalty indeed.

I was disgusted by Wenger's performance on Friday. He is condescending and arrogant. Arsenal fans pay some of the highest prices in world football to support the team and so his pompous moral stance on transfers is a bit rich.

He repeats Chelsea and Man City resources like a mantra; but why does them spending 50m on players impact on Arsenal spending 15-12m on an experienced centre-half??

He is not mentally-ill, he has the arrogance of a Caesar. He believes he is invincible and is contemptuous of us and our plebeian frustration with his vision. He has to be told during Liverpool home with a noise that will let him know his contempt is misplaced.
