I would still do if he was still on the books, and I am not the only one.Percy Dalton wrote:![]()

to the thread starter who thought Jay Simpson deserved a chance last season!
Not sure if he would make it, and loan reports from QPR said he looked short of Premier League quality, but he looked to offer as much as Bendtner and Vela so if they got the chance, he deserved one too.

Sorry I shouldn't have been that personal Quartz but it was clear to see that Simpson was never going to cut it!QuartzGooner wrote:I would still do if he was still on the books, and I am not the only one.Percy Dalton wrote:![]()

I had no idea if he would cut it, and probably would not have if subsequent form is anything to go by.Percy Dalton wrote:Sorry I shouldn't have been that personal Quartz but it was clear to see that Simpson was never going to cut it!QuartzGooner wrote:I would still do if he was still on the books, and I am not the only one.Percy Dalton wrote:![]()

It's just saw him make some good off the ball runs in Carling Cup, certainly better than I saw from other of our more hyped regulars, and thought that with his apparent physical strength he could have been given a few games, even as a sub, to show what he had.

Looks like J.E.T won't be getting his chance at The Arsenal......
What i've seen of Lansbury i think he should get a chance in the first team with a run of games and with our lack of C/B (or quality C/B's)Bartley might have a chance.

Like many, I'm not confident that any of our reserves will make the grade (hopefully I'm wrong).
One problem that exists for the big teams is how to develop their younger players. If a 18/19 year old player shows promise the options are a) the odd carling cup game, b) a loan spell at a Championship team ( where we have little control over game time, training etc and none over tactics, position played etc) or c) into the first team which is a jump to far for most players.
The Spanish structure, while not perfect, allows teams to enter their reserves in the lower leagues. This enable the club to keep control of every aspect of the player and team but at the same time the younger players are competing week in week out against good teams, experienced players and clubs desperate to win and gain promotion. I'm sure this would suit AFC better. I think we've all been seduced by the occasional brilliant performance in the Carling Cup into thinking we've got high class youth prospects, only to realise a few years later that we haven't.
