Arteta took a pay-cut to join us.

Last weekend's Sunday Supplement stated for a fact that arteta was on 70k per week so that is widely known. I heard that he was now gonna be on 60k per week with us which is a credit to the guy that he is willing to take a pay cut at all. I have to say though that it fcuks me off that we were willing to let this deal collapse over his wages - we are a club that are/were paying bendtner 52k per week and paying theo even more so for me if arteta was on 70k per week then I would have given him his 70k per week to get him to sign

On a similar topic did anyone see the bit on SSN where they were discussing Bendtners wages. Bassett said that Jim White had showed him (a text or memo) of what he was on and they were all shocked.

Bassett went on and said "well done to whoever does his deals" (which is his dad.

Now I lead to believe he's on around 60k but would that be enough to shock the panelists? I've got this feeling its closer to 70k!

Either way we seem to have brought in Arteta and (temporary) got rid of Bendtner yet still have managed to save in wages!!??!! That's wrong!

What makes you think the deal was going to collapse because Arsenal weren't matching his wages? In fact the only reason that it was close to falling through was because Everton rejected our bids until Arteta handed in a transfer request.
Roan added: "Arsenal offered £5m on Tuesday and offered £10m on Wednesday afternoon - both bids were rejected. Any deal was dead until around 1900 BST, when Arteta told Moyes he wished to leave.

"Moyes spoke to the chairman, Bill Kenwright, and said he did not want to keep a player who did not wish to play for Everton.

"Arteta was Everton's highest-paid player ever on around £75,000 a week and took a big pay cut to join Arsenal."

Way back I heard someone say that some kid at Ipswich was on £20k a week. At the same time there was uproar over Ronaldo being paid £100k. But I could understand the latter much more than I could understand the former.

There has to be a sizeable differential between what you pay to the promising youth, the experienced squad players and experienced first team players.

But this just confirms to me how stupid our wage structure is when we reward the like of Bendtner (as an example - not having a go at him in particular) so highly but then expect a player of Arteta's status to take a pay cut to come to us. At that rate we will always find it easy to attract the like of Theo, Ramsey, Chamberlein.....but will then find it hard to retain them if, as is hoped, they become a success e.g. Nasri, Flamini, Cole and, if we're not careful, Wilshere!

The deal was completed at Everton's training ground.

Also, the Evertonians are absolutly gutted he has left, which should give you an idea of how well thought of he is up here. A few bluenoses could barely speak to me today. Just put it this way, he will get a better reaction when he returns to goodison with us, than nasri will get at Highbury.

Every Evertonian I've heard on the radio since the deal was completed has said that although ideally they didn't want him to leave, they think Everton got a good deal out of it as he hasn't been the same player for the past 18 months and is too often injured. :? Now this could obviously just be sour grapes but ........ :rubchin: :rubchin:

I am aware of that, but dont we say that until he holds the shirt he ain't ours?

How hard is it to get a shirt up to him and have a picture or two taken?

my everton supporting mate told me arteta had four years left on a £75k per week contract and took a 15k per week cut to join us! good if true but in all honesty none of us really no what he is on.

as for bendtners wages if hes on 60k pw he has robbed us, surely a wage structure should work like and dont laugh, football manager! have a set wage say:
£10-20k for a youth/hot prospect (frimpong,myachi)
£30-40k for squad players (rosicky,koscielny,chamakh)
£50-80k for first team (wilshere,vermaelen,sagna)
£90-130k for stars such as van persie or marquee signings
now surely that would make more sense

That would have been rude, we just took their main playmaker at the last min without giving them time to replace him, getting him to pose with an Arsenal shirt at their ground is rubbing salt into the wounds.

What is this talk of Arteta being injury prone? He has played at least 26 games in the Premier League every season since the 2005-06 season, except 2 years ago when he played only 13 (scored 6 goals though). He started and played in 29 games last season. That doesn’t seem like a very injury prone player to me. What exactly were his injury problems?
