Agreed. It would take a damn good Arsenal team to compete now, but instead of addressing that and fighting for our position as a top club, the Arsenal management are instead going out with a whimper... and a healthy profit :? (whilst fleecing the fans dry in the process  )

To compete with the Mancs we need serious investment along with a very ambitious board and manager.

i honestly don't think that the 40M or so that are left in the bank would be enough to raise the quality of the current team to that of the invincibles, specially since a really talented player seems to cost more than half of that nowadays, and we'd need 3 or 4 of those.

but the fact that we didn't even try to strengthen it further and the fact that we let the quality of the team go down so much in these years shows you we could have managed this post-highbury era a lot better than we did.

Yes, but we're not even trying to fight our corner. You say "serious" investment is needed, but I'd take ANY investment from our board at this point as we're investing NOTHING whatsoever! We make a profit almost every summer and fail to re-invest the transfer fees received, never mind spend our own money.

Under those conditions, it's impossible to compete.

You sure? behind who exactly? 1. ManUre 2. Chelsea 3. Citeh 4. Liverpool 5. Sp*rs 6. ??? 7. ???

Eveton? Villa? Stoke?? which 2 clubs are you thinking of? - personally, I don't think you REALLY believe we'll finish that low down and are just being over the top so your opinion stands out from the crowd.

So, I'll take that bet if you want, Frank. £50? £100?? that Arsenal finish top 6.

Personally, I think we're nailed on for a fight with Liverpool and Sp*rs for 4th-6th position. All 3 clubs will lose too many to catch the top 3, but will win too many for the other clubs to catch them. At the moment, I'd say 5th would be par for this side.
I'll take that bet at £50. However, the condition is that Wenger is in charge for the whole season.
You'll take that bet? really?

Just so I understand... if Arsenal finish 6th or above, you'll give me £50. If Arsenal finish 7th or lower, I give you £50? (on the condition that Wenger is manager ALL season)

nice 8)
Yes. I really don't think you understand how poor we are.

BTW - Wilshere will be out for most of the season, as will Vermaelen. When VP gets injured.....

Bring it on!

I really hope you're wrong, frank :? although, if that is what's required to get Kroenke and Gazidis playing hard ball with Wenger, then perhaps it's for the best.

Although, each of the last few seasons SHOULD have acted as a much needed slap in the face for the board, yet nothing has changed :?

True. In an ideal world we will romp to the title and I will greatfully hand over £50. However, I can see us getting hammered again by the likes of City, along with some losses on the road up North. I don't think we'll get a run together, confidence will stay low and this squad has got no bollocks in it for the fight.

I hope I'm wrong.

Less pressure on them to look after the younger players, more time to focus on their own game. If we had the quality striker of Dzeko, Aguero then maybe Nasri would've had more assists last season.
But we haven't got players like Dzeko and Aguero have we, and whose fault is that???? :banghead:

We left Highbury so that we could compete for these sort of players - and we're further away now than we were in 2006!!

We didn't leave Highbury to pay players 200K a week though. Very few clubs can genuinely compete with City financially. No one could predict them being bought out and spending the money they have. They have made Chelsea look like a club that won a tenner on the Lottery whilst they picked up the 100M jackpot.

Whilst I am in no way defending our lack of ambition at times, you have to accept that we can't compare the signings of City with anything we do.

Fulham fans have been waxing lyrical about Phil Senderos and he was voted their MOTM on Sunday. My boss is a Fulham fan and says the player looks unrecognizable from the bumbling bambi that used to clown around at Arsenal...Still...

The reason Arsenal don't have quality players like Aguero and Dzeko is because of Arsene Wenger. Here are two examples for you.

1. Kaka's agent admitting in 2009 that Kaka had been in negotiations with Arsenal while he was at Sao Paolo. Sao Paolo wanted £9 mil for Kaka but Wenger would not go above £7 mil. Sound familiar? AC Milan swooped and paid £10 mil. How much was he sold for in the end?

2. Angel Di Maria. Arsenal had agreed a fee of £5 million with his club in Argentina Rosario. Di Maria himself is quoted just a few months ago (google it) saying that everything was agreed and he was looking forward to signing for Arsenal. At the 11th hour, Wenger decided to offer £4 million before the player had his medical. Rosario were incensed, Di Maria got screwed so Benfica swooped and simply paid up the £5 million.
Di Maria was later sold for £30 million to Real Madrid.

There's a few other examples too. Such as Nigel De Jong BEFORE City showed any interest. A case of Wenger refusing to pay Ajax 10 million pounds for him (he'd pay it for a twat like Koscielny though eh!).

Sure. All clubs and managers miss players etc that happens. In Wenger's case though it ain't a case of missing out on top players. He sees the player is good enough, he wants to sign the player, he goes into negotiations and insults the selling party with his tightness. THAT is why Arse have missed out on so many good players.

It's one thing if the guy was on trial and Wenger thinks he ain't good enough. Can't have a pop at AW for that as even fergie missed out on henry as he didn't think he had a good enough first touch (!!!).

BUT. If Fergie goes in to actually sit down and negotiaate for a player then that's because he wants him. Wenger negotiates for these players, he wants these players, but he seems to think offering what HE thinks they are worth is most important.

Hence Arsenal end up with Diabys, Denilson, Songs, Koscielnys and Chamakhs instead of Di Marias and De Jongs....

kiwomya,

But that is through choice!!! When you have two billionaires sitting on the Board and yet still have a sort of embargo on signing quality players that may cost a few quid but will raise the level of your performance, it is ultimately not City or Chelsea that are hurting us, but a case of causing self-inflicted damage.

Frank is spot on. However I think we could end up lower than 7th or 8th

I am a realist I view things by FACT , past results, form and energy within the team. Since February we have been relegation form and nothing has changed.

We are slow, boring, no end product , no tactics no spirit within the team. Even the new boys speak no English so how the fuck can the team gel? It was bad before when cesc and nasri were there and now its fucking worse!!!

Even with Cesc and Nasri we were not strong enough and became exposed as a team with only 1 style of play that has become exposed by small teams in lower leagues never mind the big boys.

We are in a real bad way and I can only see us heading for mid table.

To be honest I am still supporting the team, but I know in my heart it’s the death of this football club all caused by one old *word censored* who lives in a fairytale football manager game world.

We will be exposed big time when we play the stokes, sunderlands, boltons and it will be proven that we are indeed way out the top4

you buy players that help your easily exposed faults and with the right attitude to help the team gel and fight for the cause. There are many many cases over the years of teams of fighters outdoing super stars. We cant compete with city and the chavs but they are only allowed 25 players in the squad so thats 50 players we cant buy that leaves vast amount of players we can buy and with the right manager and tactics we could do them

People are so fucking quick to blame the board. Yes it’s the fucking board who pick the team and tells mr wenger not to bother with defensive coaching. Or what team to pick, or to stick with denilson for so long, or to pay bendnter and diaby so much money, or to play players out of position, or not wanting players who shout on the pitch (confirmed by cesc) or not to give big team talks half time, or to talk such shit after games, or to lie to fans all the time!!!!! The man is a deluded old fool who will leave this club in tatters with nobody wanting in and most wanting out!!!!!!!

Is it any wonder than new players and ex players comment on our training methods. Wenger is a fool living off the past.

For the last few years EVERY SINGLE THING I PREDICT comes true. Not once have I been proved wrong. I hear the same ball shit excuses every week!

The fans that still worship him should be lined up and stoned as they are as cancerous as wenger.
