Players making a mockery out of Wenger, fans hoodwinked

As we're unlikely to see terraces again at football, this is the virtual equivalent where you can chat to your hearts content about all football matters and, obviously, Arsenal in particular. This forum encourages all Gooners to visit and contribute so please keep it respectful, clean and topical.

But that is through choice!!! When you have two billionaires sitting on the Board and yet still have a sort of embargo on signing quality players that may cost a few quid, it is ultimately not City of Chelsea that are hurting us, but a case of causing self-inflicted damage.
I know! But the other teams can always pay more than us - what do you do?
Firstly, these other clubs can't sign everyone. Indeed, Wenger said exactly those words a few years ago when questioned about Chelsea's spending. Baba has given a few examples of where it wasn't wage demands that was the deciding factor on us losing out on good players, but Wenger's parsimonious offers.

We can also get the team to a sufficient quality and competing properly so that good players want to play for us, even if it is for a few quid less. There is still some prestige (or at least there should be) in playing for The Arsenal!!! Trophies matter as much to the best players as money does. I don't subscribe to the current theory that people only move for money and that we would all do the exact same thing if offered more cash elsewhere. However true that is in some cases, there are plenty of times where wages is not the primary concern.

The truth is we are faced with 2 choices: either try and compete with the other big boys, as our history and tradition demands, or just except that we can't and lower our ambitions and expectations to that of a club whose aim is battling with other Europa Cup hopefuls and maybe a Cup Final appearance. And if it is to be the latter, than the club should at least make sure that ticket prices they charge reflect that choice and new found realism, rather than keeping up the pretense that we pay so much in order to allow us to compete with the other top clubs!!

With regards to the speculation about failed offers for players that were raised earlier, I understand what you are saying but you must have a cut off point for what you will pay players/clubs or the business just goes out of the window.

Even Spurs wouldn't pay what was required for Gary Cahill on deadline day and that says a lot. Considering molten face said he was the top target, too.

Can I just point out that Fabregas was fantastic for us. I'm nto sure how we can criticise Wenger for how Fabregas is playing now.

He looks 10x better because he's not playing alongside the likes of Denilson and Rosicky :banghead:

At present, it seems all our major losses over the summer are playing much better. Citing Clichy and Nasri as an example here: because they are being used in their most effective positions, working with others as a unit, using good tactics, and most importantly they are surround by a team full of top quality players. Watching the highlights of the Man City game this weekend I was shocked with how well they looked to be playing. Cesc as well also looks to be playing a hell of a lot better for the same reasons.

And to think, a few years ago we used to say that once you left Arsenal then your career was essentially going to go downhill from there, looks like that has been reversed now, sadly. :(

This year the title is going somewhere in Manchester, so probably nicked by rioters and looters  as for us, we are going to be lucky if we can scrap for the remaining European spots, we looked so unconvincing against Swansea. :(

I would say Cesc is just playing in a better team. He's always been great.

As for Clichy/Nasri, lets just wait. Adebayor started off great for City. Look what's happened there.
