Not at all sure we have the money to spend that you say.
I make it about 40 - 45M in our transfer kitty at the moment, cannot say a precise figure as we can only guess how much of our loanees' salaries we are still covering.
Personally I think we need to focus on selling the remaining under-performers; Diaby, Arshavin, Rosicky, Squillachi, and getting permanent transfers for our players on loan, as well as buying in new players.
Possible targets:
Sakho or Mbodj for defensive midfield?
Vertonghen for utility defence/defensive midfield?
Hazard for wide midfield?
Benzema up front?

We need to look like we are going to win our domestic league and the CL before we can look to sign truly world class players. As Cesc said we just dont look like we can compete.Who was the last real world class player we actually signed who was world class at the time?Bergkamp? Why would Pato join us?To play in the Europa league next season.
Anyway you wont get anyone top class for under £25m and we all know Scrooge wont pay that for anyone

1. Nigel De Jong - without a doubt the name at the top of my list. Tough, sometimes overly agressive and a fcuking winner to play in a team that has fcuk all of these traits
Contract negotiations have stalled with citeeh and I know you can say that if city cant/wont pay him what he wants then what chance we will but a player going into his last season of contract would be available at a reasonable price and we surely have the kitty to pay him top whack
2. Darren Bent or Benzema (probably the former) - this team lacks real pace up front and lacks an out an out goalscorer and either would provide these traits. I have no doubt that a club like ours could prise darren bent from villa and it is common knowledge that moaninho doesnt like benzema so imo both are obtainable
3. Muller(bayern)/Gotze(dortmund)/Gourcuff(lyon) - bit of a shot in the dark maybe (esp Gourcuff) but I do feel that this team needs that bit of something different and all 3 are playmakers in that mould. I suppose that it is debatable how obtainable the bayern man is but I would be confident the other two are gettable
There are of course others that I would persue (esp in the wide midfield area's) but the above fill our biggest needs imo

Augie mate. True story. A year before Citeh signed Nigel De Jong do you know that Arsenal were negotiating a transfer with Ajax? De Jong's agent spoke about it in length in Voetbal before he signed for Citeh and after he signed. The sticking point? Ajax were willing to sell for £10 mil but Arsene didn't think he was worth that! His contract was running down and this was before he signed the extension (meaning Citeh paid double that for him).augie wrote:1. Nigel De Jong - without a doubt the name at the top of my list. Wenger wouldn't go above £7 mil for him, some way short of what Ajax were seeking. So De Jong ends up at Citeh later, and then you will hear some numpty say 'oh we could not compete with Citeh'.
Well of course we fucking cannot, when we have the chances to make inroads the gimp in charge fucks it up and the player ends up elsewhere - see Mata.
Still. Good to see Arsene would rather spend £10 mil on a piece of garbage like Koscielny and £80k a week on Chamakh instead. Phew!

He was at Hamburg when City signed him. He hadn't been at Ajax for years.Babatunde wrote:Augie mate. True story. Brede Hangeland.
A proven Premier League quality defender, has played at nearly the highest level in Europe (Europa League all the way to the final) and always looks solid.
Mario Gotze.
Top, top quality young player. Bags of confidence, supremely comfortable on the ball, a playmaker in the Fabregas mould. Will be a future star and will be snapped up by a close rival very soon.
Gary Cahill.
Another proven Premier League quality defender, best years ahead of him. Sadly we've probably missed the boat on Cahill as Wenger (once again) wouldn't pay the asking price and now that asking price will only go up as he establishes himself in the England side.
Sadly Wenger won't buy anyone like this unless the Board force him to. He will probably go through January claiming he is looking at several targets but then declare on 1 Feb that "he is happy with the squad he's got". And then we'll have to suffer Djourou / Diaby / Almunia during the annual end of the season collapse when injuries take their toll yet again.
You could write the script now . . . . . .

Sorry. I wrote Ajax instead of Hamburg.kiwomya wrote:He was at Hamburg when City signed him. He hadn't been at Ajax for years.Babatunde wrote:Augie mate. True story. Now once you accept my apology for writing the wrong club name, please go and check the interview with De Jong's agent in Voetbol and tell me again, how this in any way detracts from the fact that Wenger yet again fucked up negotiations for a quality player.
Oh that's right it doesn't does it Kiwomya? But sure, I entered the wrong club name by mistake. THAT is the key issue here....

don't worry, i often mistake those two. Ajax and Hamburg are similar names, and both from the same country!!
