If Carlsberg did WUMs....

It's all a load of Cannonballs in here! This is the virtual Arsenal pub where you can chat about anything except football. Be warned though, like any pub, the content may not always be suitable for everyone.

Just my opinion
It still amounts to being more obsessed with Sp*rs than what's best for Arsenal though.

To prefer Arsenal miss out on CL football just so we can say we finished above Sp*rs is embarrassingly small time.

We used to laugh at them for being obsessed with us... what is wrong with people on here?
I know what you're saying, but what's small time about being better than your nearest and most fierce rivals. Anything else is a bonus! 8)

Arsenal beating Spurs, be it in a match or in league position IS important.

Would I rather Arsenal be higher than Spurs but end up finishing 5th?

Yes, I would.

Is that aimed at me?

So, you'd rather NEITHER Arsenal or Sp*rs finished in the top 4, than BOTH of them making it??

That is fucked up.

I'd rather we both got into the CL, personally - and if Arsenal making the top 4 means Sp*rs finish 3rd, then so be it.

Why would anyone prefer to sabotage Arsenal's season just to say we finished above the scum.

And lets be honest, if we finished 5th and Sp*rs 6th, our "bragging rights" would look completely retarded considering the failure of missing out on the CL!

Henry Norris, was that aimed at me?

If so, let me clear a few things up. I'm from Kentish Town and have lived here all my life. I've been going to NLDs regularly since my first in 95 so I think it's fair to say I do know the importance of it.

Don't get me wrong, I can think of few worse things than finishing below Spurs, that goes without saying. However, the thought of sacraficing anything just to spite them is really small time.

Granted, we're not going to win the CL anytime soon, but not getting there at all will affect us hugely. Once we drop out of it once, I can't see us getting back in anytime soon. Without the money CL brings, the board will have a perfect excuse for the next ticket price rise. They'll also be another reason to justify not spending the money we need to spend to attract players. Then there'll be the face that we'd be even less appealing to transfer targets than we are now.

We've finished below Spurs before, and we will do again, and it'll be horrible, but if it meant we'd be guaranteed CL football, I'd take it.

Yes, but the difference between finishing 4th and 2nd is fuck all - it's still no trophy and a place in the CL.

I'd take that all day long over us being in the EUROPA league and having "bragging rights" over Sp*rs by finishing 5th and them 6th.

As I said earlier, we'd both be in the same shite competition and both missed out on the CL, so what sort of fucked up bragging right is that anyway??? :?

I don't agree with some of his points but i don't think he is a WUM.

He has a very different point of view to people on here, but he is no WUM. He sounds like the majority of Gunners, he is a bit naive of which i think its down to his age, but he is no WUM.

Like that quote, it comes across as WUM at first but it does make sense when you think about it.

ok I exaggerated but what is so good about CL qualification anyway? if the scum ever finish above us we will never hear the end of it- dvd's would be made, commemorative toilet bowl lids, anniversary dinner parties, themed dental floss. I don't want it to ever happen, if it does I will pretend it didn't and lock myself in my bathroom and never go out. 8)

If you ask me the question now (and I guess that's the case) then I'd pick us finishing 5th and sp*rs bellow us all day long!

I'm french so I shouldn't really know about the NLD. But I still hate them lot North London wannabes, for the same reasons as everyone else.

However, the reason I'd sacrifice our CL place and finish above them is that I think we have higher chances at the moment to win the EL than the CL. So I'd rather we finish above sp*rs, and have a real chance at a cup next year than they finish above us, and we end up losing in quarter finals of the CL.

We finish above them and we eventually win the EL, that one to two pros.
We finish below them, and we certainly won't win the CL, that's two cons.

So let it be here for all to see the definitive proof, once and for all that Red Member is a WUM.
How does that logical comment make him a WUM?? I 100% agree with RedMember on this one.

And anyone who would rather we finished 5th than in the CL positions JUST so we can get one over Sp*rs is pathetic.

I'd expect that small time shit from their fans, not ours! :?

Fucking hell, I know we don't get a trophy for finishing 4th, but I'd still rather that than celebrate St Totteringhams day for the 50th year running.

This thread is fucked up
Well said Rob, I was beginnin to wonder whether or not I had read the "offending" quote correctly, as you said that sort of mentality makes us no better than them???

Didnt we joke about the scum being happy 19th and getting relegated if we finished 20th? We are better than that. We should never measure our success with whats happening at that shithole. Anything below 4th is unacceptable whether the scum finishes above us or not.

Agree with this.

Red Member is a twat and possibly a WUM but some of the "we're the better fans because we hate tottenham more then you" responses are a little embarrassing. Fuck tottenham, if the height of their footballing experience is finishing above us in the league for one season then leave em to it. The only disastrous situation is them finishing above us while we scratch around playing tin pot games in jaba-jaba land.

4th should be our only focus for this season

and what does finishing 4th achieve then? if anything it is bad for us, it gives the board an excuse for lack of ambition, scraping in that tournament just to pretend we're competing with europe's elite even though we'll struggle in the group stages. It adds up to our already congested fixture list, it gives wenger a reason for him to feel like the pompous, sanctimonous arrogant man he is, regardless of what he has achieved at our club.
iI know your not from london so you probably won't understand what the NLD means but to sacrifice a 16 year record of finishing above the scum just to play olympiakos a couple of times at our souless shithole of a corporate wasteland pile of fucking shit is almost as unambitious of selling rvp and signing james beattie as a replacement.

See for me that paragraph is something that I totally agree with - our club is on the slide and with it our ambitions are on the slide too and nothing is going to change as long as wenger and the board are comfortable finishing in 4th place :x Forgetting about the scum for a minute, if you asked me if I would sacrifice finishing in the top 4 for 1 season just to shake our club from this malaise then my answer would be abso-fcuking-lutely every day of the week. I am totally aware that such an event would cost the club some big money but tbh I dont give a fcuk about them losing money that isnt being re-invested anyway  Some would point out that it would seriously undermine our ability to retain our best players but most Gooners are already aware that we have lost most of our best players already and are gonna have a real battle to convince rvp to sign a new deal so finishing top 4 wont be enough for him anyway plsu apart from rvp, wilshire and sagna is there anybody else in the squad (at this moment of time) that you would be bothered about losing anyway ? Some fans will also complain that being outside the champs league will effect our abilities to attract the top quality players but when you look at a transfer policy that see's us signing gervinho, park, kos, ox pot etc anyway then that argument hardly stands up does it ?

I am not sure whether I agree or disagree with the wum's original post but what I am saying is that for me the champs league is now more of a hinderance than a help and I dont give a fcuk about it. We dont have the squad quality to seriously challenge for it and cos we have too small of a squad it leaves us stretched for fit players in comp's that we actually have a chance in.
