Evening Standard tonight

why is there this continued assumption that we won't make the Champions League places?

Wenger has not failed in 15 attempts, why should this season be any different, especially now our defence has been tightened up? :?

Funny but I don't remember the Evening Standard rushing to Wenger's defence after the first three or four games of the season :?:

I have to credit Red as the only person I know that did that....rightly pointing out that an 8-2 hammering at Manchester United was an irrelevance given the stirring win in Udine a few nights before

So are you happy paying the highest prices in the country to watch a club which sells its best players? And in addition to that and slightly more relevant to this topic, are you happy to scrape into fourth place? Is that a success to you?

We're near enough half way through the season and we're five points behind our rivals down the road and they have a game in hand, our best players are jumping ship season after season (and this summer will be no different otherwise RVP would already have signed). Meanwhile absolutely no extra funds are invested in the squad. Wake up and smell the coffee mate.

That is why Wenger is still in charge
No. He is still in a job because he turns enough profit for the board to justify to each other their spineless incapability to admit he has passed his sell by date and to bring in a new manager that might, God Christ forbid, concentrate on building a squad rather than building profits.

The board are afraid of the unknown, afraid to act and are living in the past. Very like you and many other AKB's that do not seem to know there was a Arsenal FC long before there ever was an Arsene FC.

I'd love to know what the board said to David Dein when he first suggested they appoint Arsene. For all his bad points at least DD seemed to have the balls to act, to take a risk on a new manager.

At any other top 4/5 club Arsene would have been sacked by now. Fact.

By the way, anyone who renewed their season ticket can only answer 'yes' to that question

[quote="Number 5"]Like Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United, Wenger has earned the right to dictate the terms of his own departure and anyone who says otherwise is a fool or simply doesn't understand what he has achieved.

Jason Cowley is a fucking idiot. Shit columns like that are the reason I don't buy newspapers anymore.

And the Standard is free.[/

I can vouch for this, stopped getting this glorified bum-wiper ages ago.

It's full of crap

because while chelsea, man city and manchester united are still better than us and will finish above us, tottenham are now a shit load better than in previous years. couple this along with liverpool getting stronger and stronger and you'll realise that we need more than just "tightening up the defence" to finish 4th.
it's not impossible, but at the moment it's unlikely

the standard deteriated rapidly when it went free, only one edition day, not up to date etc.

cowleys a wanker, he works for the new statesmen which says it all.

early season he was saying how wenger would be gone as the tide had turned now hes licking his arse again. his opinions are boring and smack of the know nothing know it all.

read james olley in the standard, although a spurs fan, he speaks a bit of objective sense, unlke the cretinous matthew norman who used to have a column.

Failure to win trophies at Chavski and ManUre gets you the sack
Liverpool, Spuds and Citeh would be delighted to swap their last 6 years with us

Seems appropriate to debunk this misinformed, biased, one-eyed, incoherent load of moronic rubbish.

1) Cowley, as someone else points out, edits the new statement. Thus, it can reasonably be assumed he's a bleeding-heart, limp-wristed, New Labour, granola munching, champagne socialist. Hope the likes of him look at modern Britain, ruined by his ilk, and feel good, because the vast majority of this client state, Big Brother society, benefit-cheat-empowering clusterfuck sure as hell don't.

2) he seems to assume all Arsenal fans, many of whom go more often, know more, care more and have been going longer than him, who want Wenger out are controlled by some nefarious overlord and have one mass thought, akin to some brain-dead zombie-esque cultists.
How many of those who want Wenger out actually want us to spend far beyond our means? Very few I'd imagine...

3) he came across as a snivelling, self-absorbed, pretentious cock in his book.

Would like to see him make some of his accusations face-to-face to most Arsenal fans who want Wenger out. That's by no means a threat, but I wonder whether he's be quite so ready to slate other Arsenal in such a vituperative, supercilious, dismissive manner to their faces. I'd gladly say anything I've posted above to him in person.

I don't understand the Anti Arsene sentiments here. Did you actually watch Arsenal under Terry Neil? Don Howe? Or 1-0 to the Arsenal George Graham- score one and then defend? I admit that he's starting to get over the hill a bit, but ever since we've moved to the Emirates we've attracted a load of 'support' that will boo their own players! What is that all about?

Mate I would take Arsene over mid table mediocrity any day of the week.....
